Mirena coil - longer periods?

I had a Mirena fitted July 2020 for heavy periods. Also had a full gynae check up at the time which was all clear - although they did notice I have a cervical extropion.

I was hoping my periods would stop, no such luck! They have sort of settled into very long, albeit lighter pattern where I am spotting/bleeding lightly for about 12-14 days. Then nothing, until the next one (last one started 29 days after the previous one started, so quite regular in that regard).

I spoke to the GP last month who said that unless there was additional spotting in between the period, this isn’t a concern.

Has anyone had this? Did it eventually settle? I’m so jealous of the people who have them stop completely!

I also had one fitted for heavy bleeding due to fibroids and it made me bleed even more. My periods were lasting 10-11 days, so heavy i struggled to leave the house some days, every 22-25 days with spotting in between. It bled itself out after a year!!

Oh my goodness - so it fell out? I hope you’re sorted with something that works for you now.

I never really considered anything else - when I was having my extropion checked the gynaecologist asked me about the coil and I thought I may as well go for it since I was there but now I’m thinking I should have researched other options. I don’t need it for contraception as DH has had the snip!

Well we assumed that’s what happened to it as it’s not been seen since a very heavy bleeding episode after which I noticed I couldn’t feel the strings and various scans and a hysteroscopy failed to locate it.
I think Dr’s are very keen to push it upon people because if it works it’s great and they don’t need to see you for 5 years, but if it doesn’t it’s a pain and they’ll tell you to persevere as it might settle and getting an appointment to have them removed seems harder than getting them fitted!!
