Think you have to get him xrayed incase it is stuck don't you.

I would take mine.

misdee · 09/11/2004 20:14

tyhink you should, just so they can check the penny is causing an obstruction.

take a book for you and him!

zephyrcat · 09/11/2004 20:15

best to - although my dd (2) swallowed a 5p a couple of months ago and i was told just to wait and let it pass!

hmb · 09/11/2004 20:15

Yes, as it can lodge in the oesphagus.

popsycal · 09/11/2004 20:16

could you ring a%E to ask?
they are usually very good at giving advice when it comes to kids...especially if you go down then line of 'i dont want to waste your time by brining himin if not necessary...'

James swallowed a 10p piece a couple of years ago and it lodged in his throat - xrays showed that it wasn't covering his airways and he had to be transferred to a childrens unit. Whilst waiting for an ambulance he fell asleep (I assume shock) and started dribbling and then vomiting. This apparently was the effects of the coin moving down into his stomach. However I worried because of course it could have eben coming back up again. Take him and have him xrays to make sure its in his stomach and out of his throat.

Um - double check this advice but this happened to a friend's ds (age 2) recently and one of her relatives (in the medical profession) told her to give him something to eat and if the food came back up, then that meant the penny was stuck and he needed to go to a & e. This boy ended up staying overnight in hospital, then having a general anaesthetic so it be removed.

ds2 swallowed a 5 pence about 6 months ago - about 14 months old. We took him to A&E on the advice of NHS Direct. They xrayed him. They said it was needed to check if it had lodged anywhere. In our case it came through the next morning - but they said it may take up to a month !

Twiglett · 09/11/2004 23:04

Thanks all .. sorry to be so brusque but you know what its like

He's fine .. its passed through his tummy quite quickly and the radiographer gave him this superb x-ray to keep (of a teletubby saying hello .. ) .. it was almost worth the 2 HOUR WAIT for that

FYI Dr says they always need x-rayed just in case its lodged somewhere but that his should pass through no problems in the next few days (if he vomits or gets bloated I'm to take him back though)

off to have some supper now and then bed for me (till DD wakes me up )
