sore boob

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 05/09/2021 12:32

please can I ask you all if I should fret about my sore boob. I have a sore area that hurts when prodded. Nothing to see on the outside and can't feel a lump, but it hurts in area and has done for a few months now. It is only on one boob and is not where my lymph nodes normally get tender before my period. I have spent the last few months always thinking it due to hormones or ovulation or something but am also thinking it should have gone away by now? I do not like my GP and do not want to waste their time but???

It’s always worth getting checked in my opinion.

Autumnally · 05/09/2021 19:45

Worth getting checked, although my breast consultant always insists most breast cancers are painless. So he doesn’t view pain in the absence of a lump to be a worry. But yes do have a chat with your gp.

Greenmarmalade · 05/09/2021 19:49

Definitely get seen by GP.

Princessdebthe1st · 05/09/2021 19:53

Dear OP,

Please, please see your GP. The likelihood of it being anything sinister like cancer is small but not nonexistent. The only symptom I had before I was diagnosed with breast cancer was localised pain in one breast.

For everyone, if you have symptoms that make you worry in anyway about cancer please don’t think you would be wasting your GPs time. Early diagnosis is one of the best ways of ensuring effective treatment and to do that it means that a lot of people will go to the GP and/or be referred for investigations and gladly be told there is nothing to worry about. That does not mean that they are wasting anyone’s time as some sadly will be diagnosed with cancer but hopefully soon enough for curative treatment.

I had this last year. It turned out to be nothing but they scanned and mamogrammed me and it was reassuring. Go and get checked!

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 05/09/2021 19:56

thank you all, I will grit my teeth and bother them!

ty all, I wrote to my practice this morning and saw a lovely GP this afternoon and have been referred on the "need referring but not the 2 week panic one" route. Thankyou all for the push.

I've been fretting about the same thing over the past 4 weeks, and only 5 minutes ago was saying to DH that it's still sore.

Exactly the same as you - localised, just one side, only hurts when prodded and no obvious lump. Also put it down to hormones (think I may be perimenopausal) but hasn't gone. After reading this I think I will also go to the GP.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 06/09/2021 22:02

good luck Inigo!

Thanks @Sillybillypoopoomummy.

Bit the bullet and saw the GP. She made an appointment at the (2 week path) breast clinic for the 20th for me. She couldn't feel a lump but possibly some slight thickening where the pain is - so naturally I'm now bricking it.

Do you have an appointment yet?

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 08/09/2021 19:26

I also used the term thickening to the GP and it turns out that i was put on the 2 week path as an appointment for next week arrived today. I have had to change it to the following week (21st: the day before a big interview!) but am trying to forget about it for now (throbbing boob aside...). Glad you went and good luck with the appointment. I know everyone is moaning about GPs at the moment but I cannot fault the service I have had!

Ditto - the service has been amazing. Sent a message to the GP at 8.15, had a phone call before 9, appointment at 3.50 and booked in for the clinic by 5.

Lots of luck for your appointment too. Will follow your lead and try to put it out of my mind.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 08/09/2021 19:49

I have had this sensation several times and have been referred 3 times. Each time it has turned out to be a cyst and the fluid was drained off in the clinic. A bit uncomfortable but not actually painful. The cysts do refill from time to time and the discomfort comes and goes depends on where I am in my menstrual cycle. Lots of women do get cysts. I hope you manage not to worry too much before your appointment.
