Teething + high temp

Is a high temp normal with teething, and how high is high? DD (12mths) has been dozing most of the day and is very red faced. She was 3 times in the night, when usually she sleeps through and now has a temp of 38.6. I am fighting the neurotic mother within! Please tell me this is normal. Or if not what can i do?!

Have you given Nurofen/Calpol? Should help with temp. Have no idea why, but teething does seem to be associated with high temp in some children. On the other hand it could be anything. 2/3 of mine are ill atm with coughs and fevers and the night-times are terrible! If it doesn't improve after a few days, I'd see a doctor, or see one sooner if you can't control the fever with meds.

my dd & ds have both gone up to around 40 degrees when teething and been red in the face. I use calpol and nurofen, sometimes together in the evening to allow them to go to sleep. I also strip their bed clothes down at night and sometimes use a flannel on their forehead and make sure they have plenty of water. ds only started sleeping through at 13 months and now, at 14 months his eye teeth seem to be on their way and he's back to waking several times a night...

HTH [smile}

Thanks for calming me down - she has grown 5 teeth with hardly any trouble! i guess i have just been spoilt! So far she has had calpol and boots teething powder. She is still incredibly hot and moany.

Does she have red cheeks too ? If so, is it possible she has something else such as Slapped Cheek/Fifth disease which in ds at 8 months looked remarkably similar and I mistook for teething. It is viral and not serious but can make them feel pretty unwell for a few days and has a characteristic bright red rash on cheeks, becoming lacy on body and limbs. Treatment is symptomatic using calpol or nurofen but you may want to see a dr for confirmation as to whether it is just teething or not.

Hoep she feels better soon

Give these a go - Calpol, lots of water/watered down milk, cool baths, belladonna 30c homeopathic remedy (speciifc for red cheeks and teething) . If not better tommorrow def see a doc.

I found putting a hot water bottle under his blankets helps my little boy with his teething. Although Calpol is my saviour at the moment, but then he has an ear infection and am waiting for the antibiotics to kick in...
Oh a question, what does DS and DD mean, as I am new to this mumsnet?
