Horrible brown strains on and between teeth :(

I wore braces when I was younger but they didn't fully straighten my teeth.
My bottom teeth as very crooked and not straight, meaning it's always been harder to clean between them. I also drink a lot of tea (no red wine or other drinks that might stain though).
I'm tried everything... coconut oil, baking soda, tumerics and even a descaler that I bought online.
The staining just won't go and it's getting me really down... People stare at those teeth then they're speaking to me. Can anyone recommend anything? I don't smoke btw and eat healthy.

@loveacupoftea18 your local pharmacy will have it in glass bottles. You may need to ask at the counter.

I found Arm and Hammer whitening toothpaste combined with a well-charged electric toothbrush helped my staining.

Our dentists always offers a scale and polish on checkups Surprised your dentists hasn’t advised this

Haywirecity · 02/09/2021 09:37

My sister is very diligent cleaning her teeth but insists on using mouthwash which, if used too often, stains the teeth brown. The dentist keeps telling her to stop it but she can't. However, once she stops, her teeth go back to being white.

Go to a hygienist! They will be able to clean your teeth and advise on how to get rid of stains.

Please don't make up whitening solutions recommended by randomly on the internet...

I’ve been for check ups during Coronavirus but she refuses to do any cleaning.
She’s an arse but that can’t be helped 🤦‍♀️

Snoopsnoggysnog · 02/09/2021 10:03

Like everyone else has said - hygienist. I really wouldn’t start making your own bleach at home as recommended upthread.
Some will do a basic scale and polish but other more high end ones have really advanced cleaning and stain removal.

minipie · 02/09/2021 10:05

Yes yes hygienist. Ideally one that will use water cleaning (like a mini pressure washer for your teeth) as well as manual descaling.

Whitening solutions will bleach the stains but you will still have build up there which will stain again very quickly, and also provides a good home for bacteria.

A hygienist will remove the build up so the teeth are clean. The build up will accumulate again but more slowly - an annual hygienist visit should sort it.

My dentist Orr COVID would given them a good clean as part and parcel of the check up. NHS dentist / price.

They stopped doing this with COVID and I just called to ask about it and it is now a separate appointment at a cost of £70.

Does anyone know is that the going rate and reasonable?

Bryonyshcmyony · 02/09/2021 11:46

69 here so yes

Nospringchickendipper · 02/09/2021 11:49

I visit the hygienist every three months. Pre COVID I paid £28 now I pay £35. I don’t really like going but my teeth are lovely and white after.

mrsrobin · 02/09/2021 14:26

Yep, the hygienist is the answer - maybe every 6 months - price varies but mine is £55 for about 30 minutes. Along with Tepe brushes and floss.

NotMyCat · 02/09/2021 14:33

Hygienist and then if the staining comes back try the white glo toothpaste (it comes with a brush) to remove it when needed

thereisonlyoneofme · 02/09/2021 15:10

I hear that some dentists/hygienist at the moment are using the old hand tools to clean teeth, not the power ones. I hate having mine done with the old tools

PurpleDaisies · 02/09/2021 15:15

My hygienist visit the other day was a proper pre pandemic one .
