I went to A and E yesterday as I woke up with agonising pains in my chest, back and neck. Thought I was having a heart attack, but it turns out to be oesophageal spasm. This is obviously a much better diagnosis, but I'm in so much pain. My back, chest, neck all feel so painful, the sort of pain that takes your breath away.

Just wondering if anyone else had had this and how long it lasted? I've been given lansoprazole 30mg.

Distraction can be really helpful for pain too, I find listening to a podcast helps while you are waiting for the pain killers to work.

Yes I use distraction at the dentist. Especially good is having to mentally work on remembering something, eg a poem you half know, foreign words, names of people you were at school with etc.

Quick update - I'm feeling so much better now. I could actually lay on my side to sleep last night.

Hoping that all of you who were suffering are feeling better now.

Thanks for all your good wishes.
