I’ve had pain in the top of my arm for a couple of months now, worse at night in bed and first thing. Dr thinks it’s RC and has referred for an ultrasound.
Just wondered what treatment others have had, and how long it took to go ?
Getting fed up of it waking me at night now.

I kept thinking my pain would go, after 4 months I went to the GP & they referred me to physio.

I had physio for several months, at one point there was a discussion about a referral to orthopaedics for an injection but things suddenly improved. It was a long time before it finally felt pain free. Two months after being discharged it flared up again though, then Covid hit.

I keep doing the physio exercises but not as much as I should, it isn’t as bad as when it first happened but I just can’t get rid of it. I haven’t been back to the Drs yet though, I just can’t bear to.

Try to see a physio as soon as possible and do any exercises they give you as often as recommended. They can take a long time to heal but it's best to keep them moving (safely) and get treatment sooner rather than later.

Tealwarrior · 28/08/2021 19:11

Mine has never actually gone away and 3 years later it still flares up at times despite physio.

GP said ‘ treatment’ (whatever that means) for a small tear, possible operation for a big tear (no thanks !) or a steroid injection if no tear and it’s tendinitis.
I’ve put up with it for months as didn’t want to bother the GP, now she said up to a 12 week wait for the ultrasound, and I’ve had enough. It’s waking me a couple of times a night.
I had plantar fasciitis several years ago and that took forever to go, and was so painful.

Every sympathy OP, it’s really painful I know, I have had a lot of physio, it is much better than it was, but a long way off being fully fixed. But I think it’s probably the best it will ever be.

Physio. Took months to regain full function but physio started off with pain management and gentle mobility exercises then progressed to strength

I’ve had this for eight months now. Physio eased it a bit. I cover myself in Tiger Balm and take cocodamol. Now been compounded by a frozen shoulder. Awaiting a steroid injection for the FS. Sorry I can’t be more helpful but tbh it’s been hell.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/08/2021 17:50

I did a proper job of damaging my RC (full tear of the supraspinatus) which required surgery and 6 months post-op until full recovery.

However, I did have minor shoulder issues a while before that which recovered about 3-4 weeks after a steroid injection.

Yes. I got the frozen shoulder as well. Both of them actually byt thankfully not at the same time.
PaperMonster · 30/08/2021 20:55

@Tealwarrior unfortunately I’ve got them both at the same time - one’s led to the other. Pretty sure I’d not have the FS if I’d have been seen sooner, but it’s pointless me thinking that way I guess!!

I’m
Currently awake
For the third night in severe pain and wondering if this is what I have. Nothing is even touching the pain. I was prescribed naproxen but will have to get something stronger tomorrow. I’ve been referred to a physio. Do you remember injuryinh yours? Mine just seems to have started as a sporadic stiff neck at night and has moved to my shoulder… I
Sympathise and hope it’s better soon Flowers

I had Cortisone injections after almost 3 years of physio and pain.. couldn't clasp my bra or anything... devastating immobility ..

Two injections ... one top of shoulder down into pain area.. one in back lower down..

It was a gawd darn miracle.. within an hour I was moving freely and had relief for the first time 3 years ..

this was 4 years ago.. Im cautious in my movement so I never trigger it again 🌸

Thomasina79 · 31/08/2021 20:16

Another sufferer here! It’s awful isn’t it. My pain clinic consultant has listed me for an injection and I am also awaiting physio. The pain is always with me and I too cannot do up bras. I also have a trapped nerve in my neck (if I was a dog or cat they would put me down!). As people have said painkillers don’t help much, though my GP said to take them regularly to keep on top of the pain. My thoughts are with all my fellow sufferers!

Daretobear · 31/08/2021 20:23

I went to see a chiropractor who did whatever chiropractors, do along with some acupuncture.

Had three sessions and he said we'd reached a tipping point where it should start healings itself.

I can now do up my brastrap with a bit of extra pulling. It still aches a bit in bed sometimes and I'm pretty careful what I do on that side but it's made a huge difference and I'd really recommend it.

Nat6999 · 01/09/2021 02:37

I damaged my shoulder turning over in bed, I thought I had dislocated it the pain was so bad. The doctor fobbed me off with Naproxen & then a few months later with a steroid injection. When the pain hadn't gone 6 months later I insisted on a referral to a shoulder consultant, he said the best thing was surgery as I had an impingement, I had the surgery & 6 months later I was much better.
