Teething- is it always this bad?!!

DS cut his first tooth last week at 6 1/2 months. He has really been suffering for about 6 weeks and none of the usual remedies (powders, teethers, calpol etc) seem to have done much to help him.

In your experience did your DC always behave the same when teething? I guess I'm just wondering if it's going to be like this every time !!

yes but if it helps my ds got 8 teeth in 2 weeks was hell but over quickly was grand for 6 months in pain for a few weeks then got all his back ones over two weeks aswell!i think once they cut one it opens the gum for the rest and they fly along

First time was the worst for dd1, apart maybe from her canines - but that was much later.

8 teeth in 2 weeks? I bet that was a grim time in the earwaxbanisher household?! Still I think it would be preferable to get it over and done with in one go.

hi, i was just about to post a similar question, my DD15months has her back ones coming through, and we thought it was going to be a breeze as she dealt with the first lot so well. she's really suffering. she's got a cold too, so she's coughing and putting her hands in her mouth at the same time and vomiting in bed. this is the 2nd night of it and its horrible. won't eat much either, hasn't eaten more than 2 pieces of toast all day...

so, no, in answer to zebedee (and sorry to hijack), for us, different teeth coming through have meant different problems, and much more difficult than the first lot...

good luck with yours.

have you tried mediced and /or nurofen? these are both excellent in combo. i also used to give calpol 30 mins before feeding , so they would feed. just keep giving the paracetamol every 4 hours to keep on top of it and nurofen when they have eaten or with milk. mine always would have some milk to fill them up. hth ps and powders work better the more you give. you can get them off the internet much cheaper than boots, you need the 30c strenghth ( my friend is an homeopathic gp) can't think of the name)

zebedee1 · 02/12/2007 10:07

Thank you for your replies, I will try the calpol and nurofen together. Noodlesoup, my DS has also had a cold and temperature so I can comiserate with you, DS was up crying 7 times last night, hope your DD is OK today.

a bit better thanks zebedee. up since 3am on n off but happier than yesterday. hope yours is too.

Since baby is over 6 months old you could try nurofen. Calpol does nothing to dd, but nurofen works very well...

For us the the front teeth were disruptive but the back teeth are awful. We're having nights of inconsolable screaming and days of total grizzliness. In fairness DD has been ill too but she wasn't ill with the first molar cutting. It's absolutely hideous. Nurofen is defo better than calpol ime. I can't understand how some lo's can sail through teething and others are totally debilitated by it. It's miserable for them poor loves
