Post migraine dizzyness

My DH suffers with migraines (he's had two this week). He gets the one with flashing lights and aurora's(sp)this is then followed by a few days of classic migraines (brain banging against the skull type headache) the worst part of it however seems to be a debilitating dizzyness that follows for up to three months. If he sits and focusses then he's ok but any movement or reading causes the most awful dizzyness. Does anyone else have this experience with migraines or has anyone got any advice?

Many thanks

I have had migranes for years on and off and they do leave you feelin crappy for ages after but 3 months?

I also have had laberinthitus(sp?) which sounds similar to what your dh is having.Have a look on nhs under ear problems-its when the bits in your ear get unbalanced which causes spinning and feeling sick-i felt like i was drunk while i had it.Horrible.Get him to see his GP anyway as there are some fantastic migrane tablets available now.Good luck.

I have classic migraine, auras without migraine and supposedly migraine of the intestines (although I doubt that diagnosis!) so I am a bit of an expert and I would say that prolonged symptoms are in need of follow up. As a teenager I had a classic migraine for a week, I had a brain scan as they were so worried about me. Prolonged symptoms like this could well be something else, nobodysfools' suggestion seems likely but get him to the GP on Monday - then again he may just need glasses

I'm suffering with a migraine atm. Started feeling bleurgh this time last week, and the aura and lights in front of my eyes etc started a few nights ago, headache just kicking in. I've been suffering with the dizziness for a few months, and have an appt next week about it, but never thought to connect it to the migraine.

I have a couple of friends who had similar dizziness to my symptoms, and were both diagnosed with vertigo, were given medication for it.

Thanks for your responses. DH has seen a Dr on an off over the years and a couple of years ago they did all sorts of tests but with no diagnosis so the assessments kind of fizzled out. Consequently he gets very down about it all as he thinks that Dr's can't help him. He's been treated for inner ear problem before but the tablets did nothing.

I spoke to NHS direct today as we're into the second day of his vision being very disturbed and he can't even raise his head off the pillow, we did get an appointment at outpatients but on arrival they said they were running 2 hours late and he didn't have the energy to wait so we left .

I think you're right, it does need pursuing further. Just wish there was somthing I could do for him now.

Many thanks for your messages

Ginger- sorry did not twig you were the original OP (doh - white wine again!) Do chase it up, as I said I have had a Stomach pain classed as Intestinal Migraine but I believe they are fobbing me off - not deadly therefore they messed about so much I have given up chasing them. Go for it, ask to meet another GP - you never know! Migraines like this are rare in men (not the same hormones to blame it on) so chase it up!

Hope you are getting more sleep now, we have our good nights and our bad but generally getting better - God bless SIFTW!

I have a fuzzy, weird, cloudy 24-48 hours afterwards.

What you are describing sounds more like labrynthitis though (middle ear condition).

Thanks for your responses, DH has been to the Dr again today. He's given him some new medication to take when he's having a migraine next time but thinks these are just the after affects or related to a cold virus (he's also got a cold).

He's still as bad this evening though and feeling mighty down about it so we might be going back tomorrow if there's no improvement. Thanks again.

Keep going back until it is sorted out. He deserves to get an answer. Hope he is feeling better soon.
