My daughter has had red cheeks nose and chin for a long time. Since she was little. She says it's stressing her out, she has had parents of friends comment on it and feels new people notice it about her. she doesn't want to wear makeup to cover it as it makes her uncomfortable (fair enough). She says it could be rosacea or even a symptom of lupus, and wants it sorted by the doctors, but isn't sure if they would actually help. What would you do?

I'd encourage her to see her GP. Whatever it is, it's very likely something can be done.

What has she already tried?

Bryonyshcmyony · 23/08/2021 23:56

Rosalique is genuinely amazing for roseacea if she can bear it, it's so light

She hasn't really tried anything, we're not sure what we could try. She takes good care of her skin (much better than me!). Do let me know what we could try though

Sometimes (I.e. every 3-5 months) her cheeks turn into a rash, where it is more red than usual and lumpy, and itchy, and we have used various creams on these (aqueous cream, aqueous calamine cream, savlon, aftersun gel) to relieve itch but none seem to make it go away.

Well the obvious thing is to go to the gp rather than asking mumsnet

I suffered with rosacea for many years, I eventually used Soolantra prescribed by the GP which sorted it. It kills off the demodex mite which is found in greater quantity on the faces of people with rosacea. Obviously need to speak to a GP to confirm it is actually rosacea.
I still have a slightly red complexion and I wear Estee Lauder maximum cover doublewear foundation to cover it.

Brilliant.

MN can be a great source of shared knowledge for this kind of thing. Why are people so horrible on here these days?

urbanbuddha · 24/08/2021 00:51

She should make an appointment to see her GP. I don't understand what the problem with that is. It's stressing her out and that's not healthy.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2021 00:58

It's obvious to go to the GP if you know it's the sort of thing they can, and will, help with. The reason the OP is asking on MN is because she and her DD didn't know that. She....wants it sorted by the doctors, but isn't sure if they would actually help.

Yes, OP, your DD should go the the GP for diagnosis and treatment.

NekoShiro · 24/08/2021 01:06

Sounds like rosacea, go see go for something prescribed otherwise either cover with makeup/specialist makeup or learn to live with it, if anyone asks says it's a skin condition/birth mark and to not be rude about it
