Covid vaccine pregnant

Hi,
I'd love some advice regarding the Covid 19 vaccine. I am 35 weeks pregnant and I'm debating having vaccine or waiting until after baby. My midwife is putting pressure on me to have the vaccine as I live on the Isle of Wight and it's now getting really bad here regarding Covid. When looking into it I'm reading a lot about placenta problems and still births after having vaccine. However, also reading there's currently 68 pregnant woman in intensive care who didn't have vaccine and ending in fatality for baby and mother. Any advice would be great or if anyone has had vaccine or Covid at this late stages of pregnancy has any advice would be great!

I had my vaccine at 24 weeks and 32 weeks, currently 39 weeks and all is well. There is an absolute wealth of threads on here with the exact same question so I would search for them however I will say that it wouldn't be recommended in pregnancy if the benefit didn't totally outweigh the risks. RCOG would never recommend anything that wasn't safe.

I think 200,000 pregnant women have taken part in the U. S. Covid vaccine Study now and all have given birth and there were no complications caused by the vaccine.

BIWI · 23/08/2021 19:03

Have the vaccine. You're much more at risk if you're unvaccinated.

Isbobmyuncle · 23/08/2021 19:04

Try these guys. I’m 33 weeks and have had both of mine.

Where on earth are you reading about placenta problems and stillbirths after vaccine?

All the official guidance here now is strongly to get the vaccine so I would go with that..there's loads and loads of threads on the coronavirus and pregnancy boards too. Mumsnet put up a spot today to say that Pregnant Then Screwed are starting up an advice service thing, I guess it will be on their website too but I'll try to do a link to the thread for you too.

Ah @Isbobmyuncle even better than my scrambled attempts to find a link to another link 😂

Isbobmyuncle · 23/08/2021 19:45

@8dpwoah I was being lazy - their Twitter feed was the first thing that came up Wink

My SIL got covid at 34 weeks and very nearly died, and she is still suffering immensely. I doubt her health will ever be the same. Her baby was born by emergency cs, she was on a ventilator for over a month, and she wasn't able to meet her son until he was nearly 3 months old. She now has permanent lung and heart issues, and she is a shell of former self. She could have gotten vaccinated earlier in her pregnancy and she declined. She bitterly regrets that decision.

Get vaccinated or be extremely careful over the next several weeks.

brushlaptop · 23/08/2021 19:51

Where are you reading this info regarding placenta problems abs still birth?
You're at much lower risk having the vaccine and could probably fit both in before you give birth which would be great. I'm 32 weeks and had both mine.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 23/08/2021 20:20

You'll always be able to find antivax garbage if you look for it.

Placenta problems are common. Stillbirth is common. When you have millions of women getting the vaccine and thousands of women suffering stillbirth or placenta problems, you are going to end up with quite a few women in the centre of the Venn diagram. That does not mean the vaccine caused these things. It means they had the vaccine and they also coincidentally had a sad outcome, as has happened as long as there have been humans. If the vaccine caused placenta problems or stillbirth, we would see higher rates of these things in vaccinated Vs nonvaccinated women. Which we do not, despite the fact that we now have very large data sets. If there was an effect, we would have found it by now.

It's a complete no-brainer. If you want to protect your health and your baby's, get the vaccine asap.

Hello @TheVolturi and @pinkbeans16. I've attached the graphic about the Pregnant Then Screwed and Full Facts helpline.

We know there has been a lack of clear information for pregnant women and relating to all aspects of women's health, so we've also just launched a Vaccine and Women's Health Q&A with experts where you can ask your questions about anything related to women's health and pregnancy. Open for questions until Friday 27th at 2pm.

Covid in pregnant women is in the rise especially with the Delta variant.
