Has anyone cured wedding-ring rash?!

For a couple of months I’ve had a really itchy bumpy rash on my ring finger underneath my wedding and engagement rings. I’ve tried not wearing my rings for a few weeks and giving them a good scrub with warm soapy water. I have good hand hygiene (I wash them frequently with two preschool DCs). I use hand cream daily and have tried putting Savlon on the area regularly. As soon as it looks like the skin is calmer back to normal, I try putting my rings back on and it flares up again! It’s so itchy and frustrating, and my finger swells up so that I can’t even get my rings on anyway!
I don’t want to bother my GP for something so small; has anyone successfully treated ring rash at home, and if so, how?!

I get this with my titanium watch, but not my white gold rings.

I developed a nickel allergy in my 20s and had to stop wearing all of my bracelets and earrings. Irritating, and can apparently happen if you're ill when you're wearing them and your body has a misplaced immune response.

I don't think the watch is an allergy though because it's fine most of the time. I think it's just a sensitivity to getting soap under there. I have to take it off straight away, clean it to remove any soap and leave it off for a few weeks.

My wedding ring seems fine, but I had to stop wearing a special silver/diamond ring because of this.
I would take it off for a month, let your finger recover and try again.

Thanks so much for all the responses; I definitely don’t dry my hands properly so I’ll be eagle-eyed about that now, and I also slather hand cream on to try and keep it hydrated but that probably gets under the rings and actually makes it worse!

I hadn’t even thought of asking a pharmacist! I’ll see if I can get some hydrocortisone and then leave the rings off for a few weeks, like other posters I can’t wear both at once and I really want to again!!

I know this thread is super old, but really suffering with this and wondering if you’d had any success OP? Thanks!

Hello! Unfortunately I haven’t managed to cure it 100%, but I’ve had a massive improvement by focussing on drying my hands really thoroughly - I make sure I dry right around the rings and push them aside to get the skin underneath as dry as I can. I find that makes the biggest difference. Haven’t found any creams that help. I also think it’s because I’m taking some medication that makes my fingers a little swollen - my wedding ring is slightly too tight now and that makes the irritation so much worse. Now I wear it closest to my knuckle so it’s on the thinnest bit of my finger, and that seems to help too. Good luck!

I had this and my jeweler solved the problem. In addition to all these other comments you also need to bring your rings in to be professionally cleaned. There are hollow spaces under each diamond if you have any set diamonds in your band and they can collect the irritant. Even if I heal the rash, if I don’t have my ring professionally cleaned it just comes right back. I’ve tried to clean at home, but I guess I cant get in those crevices they way the professionals do.
