Mine is TSH level 1.32 miu/L at 48 yrs old

Interested to know what is yours? What age? The GP always says it's ok but the range goes up to 4.0 min/lL

MAny thanks in advance Smile

On the face of it, that looks fine, but TSH is not a thyroid hormone, it's a pituitary hormone. If you have symptoms suggestive of hypothyroidism, you may need further testing, which you will probably need to do privately.

Lots more information on ThyroidUK website and forum.

I’m 30 and mine was 5.0 a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been feeling tired and had a few weeks of palpitations that have thankfully settled. Apparently this is borderline level? So no treatment for now it’s being retested in 3 months.
I don’t know anything about the thyroid though

Ideal tsh is between just below 1 to 2 so you're bang on.

Sounds perfect. Closest to 1 is bang on. As it goes higher it is going out of range.

Low TSH, high within range T4 is optimal.

Just wondering can anything else cause a high TSH level apart from under active thyroid? I have a low ish ferritin level too

Tsh is a pituitary hormone. It puzzles me that nhs doctors use this to determine your thyrpid levels. You need t3 t4 and antibody levels tested to really see if your thyroid is healthy. Tsh alone is unreliable.

Improving your ferritin may help a flagging thyroid to recover. The rda of iodine and selenium only.

Making sure B-12, folate and vit d are good too can help with either symptoms or potentially the hormone levels.

There's some rare issues linked to the pituitary gland (secondary hypothyroidism) that can cause issues. As above its looking at the bigger picture though.

Test in the mornings as all hormones can fluctuate a little during the day. After thyroxine if you're on it.

Someone on thyroxine needs a slightly higher level of t4 as they convert it to t3 in the organs and peripheral tissues. Normal thyroids make t4 and some t3 too, the rest of the t4 being converted elsewhere.

Issues with this conversion can mean some with hypothyroidism need some extra t3.
