Jumping as I fall asleep

Hey, this is so random but I cannot find any information about what this could be. I suffer with health anxiety so anything like this is a worry for me. For the past 2 nights, as I’m falling asleep I have suddenly jumped, not so much moved myself but woke up and when it happens there’s a sudden exhale of breath from my nose. Really weird and hard to explain over here sorry. It’s happening around 3/4 times a night. I am just getting over a cold and still have a little congestion in my nose/ears and I’m using nasal spray. Not sure if the cold could be linked. Anyone else had this? x

Are you approaching perimenopause? Mine became more marked at this stage and apparently it was falling oestrogen levels changing cortisol/adrenaline. It felt like hitting a concrete floor and woke me up fully. Either that, or I'd suddenly panic that I'd forgotten to give myself or my family some essential medication (none of us were anything) and that they would die. I once found myself rummaging through my bedside table to find tablets I 'had' to give to one of my teenagers... Very weird.

It stopped when I went on to HRT.

There's a theory that it's to stop us falling out of trees: www.awatrees.com/2014/05/18/asleep-with-our-arboreal-ancestors/

@oneglassandpuzzled ahh that sounds scary. But no I’m not I’m only 26. It’s just scary because it’s a few times a night and two nights in a row I’m just worrying about tonight now x
