HI ladies I'm looking for some help and have posted elsewhere with no joy. This problem has been ongoing now for over 2 years and I've had enough now. 2 years ago out of the blue about a week before my period I started to get very sore below and swollen once my period came in stopped and then every month before my period it would happen again. It was so bad I couldn't wear underwear in bed and could barely sit down. I went to see my doctor who took swabs everything clear and sent me to a gyno who didnt really say anything about that issue but did say I had cysts on my ovaries and put me on the mini pill in the hope my periods would stop and the cysts would go away. The pill didnt stop my periods but did take away the soreness and swelling below until a few months ago it started again only this time it would come either just before my period or just after and wasnt as bad. This time it was more of a stinging sensation I'd get. My partner has said if we have intercourse when I have this sensation he sometimes feels abit sore the next day then goes away. I will be booking back in with the doctor when this starts again but I'm just at my wits end with it now. I really dont know what else to do. I really cant imagine the cysts are to blame as I've had them before without this issue. My first thought was bv maybe but then I read a few other things it could be. I've tried cotton underwear, cooler baths and salt baths. I see the gyno every 6 months to check on the cysts but nothing is ever said about the other issue it's almost like they've no clue themselves. Anyone with any advice please share I really cant cope with this anymore. Thankyou.

Sorry that you're going through this! It is truly uncomfortable and painful to suffer with.

I suffered with this too for a few years, and every month was the same - so uncomfortable to wear underwear or sit down. I can completely empathise with you as it is so excruciating. One month I decided to completely clean up my diet, and the soreness went away.

I cut down on processed foods and drinks such as processed meals, desserts, white bread etc. and started eating more raw vegetables and healthy fats such as humous, olives and nuts, and I also significantly increased my water intake, by drinking more water more often.

I don't know your current dietary habits, but I had to make a conscious effort to eat better throughout the month. I don't eat super clean all the time, nor have I completely cut out the foods mentioned before, but it's just about making better choices and eating less of these things.

Throughout our cycles and especially as we get closer to our period, our vaginal pH levels increase. Menstrual blood can also increase vaginal pH levels. Therefore, more acid-forming foods such as sugar, bread, dairy, etc. cause more acidity in the body, which causes our pH levels to increase. And, when we are out of balance for too long, bacteria has a chance to thrive and cause discomfort due to inflammation.

As your normal monthly cycle can cause hormone changes which in turn alter vaginal pH, perhaps your swelling and soreness decreased because the pill generally maintains more consistent hormone levels.

I really hope that this has helped you in some way as this has worked for me, and I really hope that this problem goes away for you as I know how it feels. Try and give these things a go and see how you get on, I really hope that you feel better soon!

Silenthurricane thankyou so much for your reply. I will definitely try this because I could eat more healthier to be honest. I don't tend to eat breakfast alot so I do tend to get hungrier faster so just grab whatever quick fix I can until dinner. There are quite a few things I can cut out and I certainly need to drink more water.

I agree with you the pill may have done something to decrease the soreness and swelling I just wish it didnt change my period. The idea was to stop the periods altogether but it actually made my periods longer which is being kept an eye on by the gp. I sometimes cant even explain where the stinging sensation is sometimes because it seems to change each time. It's more irritating at the minute rather than painful like it was before.

Hopefully this will help. Thankyou again for your advice it's really helped and nice to know I'm not the only one going through this or been through this.
