Kind of hoping there maybe a copd nurse or someone experienced in it.
My Nan has had copd for years, she now struggles to breath she was in hospital and had oxygen and nebuliser.
She was of them all for a day and discharged her self. She hates hospitals. Since coming home she can hardly breath. We feel she needs hospital again she is set against it.
Who decides when someone needs oxygen at home? Or nebulisers? Her doctor won’t prescribes only sends her to hospital.

Ime it is the hospital/consultant that agree and arrange for home oxygen & Nebs.
Such a worry for you, I hope she agrees to go back for treatment. It must be awful both for her suffering, and for you all, to see her suffering Flowers

@Wimowehwimowehwimowehwimoweh thanks for your reply.
She isn’t under a consultant for her copd. She had a copd nurse but not seen her for a couple of years (she wanted to send my Nan to hospital because of low oxygen but she wouldn’t go). She has slowly Deteriorated, now I think she needs more but she feels they will keep her in hospital for ever or put her in a home is she can’t bet of it.
Hoping she going back in tonight my aunty is trying.

If she had stayed in hospital the Drs/respiratory consultant may have discussed if she was suitable for home oxygen but she’s obviously fearful of not getting out, must be awful for her.
Do they have hospital at home in your area? They may be able to sort it for her, if she’s really bad it may well just be best for her to be persuaded to go back-just for the short term-whilst things can be put in place for her (if they agree to it of course) I’m not really up to date sorry as it was a few years ago my relative had home oxygen. I hope she agrees to go back so she gets the care she needs.

Oh blimey, she was really struggling then. She will be getting the best care now and the oxygen she needs.
I hope the family will be able to speak to someone so that home oxygen can be arranged so she doesn’t have to stay in and can be at home. Flowers

Glad she is improving Smile

Glad she got seen to properly. My Dad has copd and is now on home oxygen. For a year or more now we've been monitoring his SATS with an oximeter (he has a medical card for his copd showing the range he should be in 88-92%) and if it goes below that we call 111 (or 999 if he's struggling up breathe) so he's been in and out of hospital a fair bit. He also has regular visits from the Respiratory nurse and complex care nurse through the gp so you could ask about that. They (and we) also keep an eye on his ankles and legs for swelling and any increase in coughing. Then the gp often will tweak his medication, usually his diuretics. After a while you get to know what's normal/safe for the individual but I do think it's worth asking to be referred to a respiratory nurse.
Hope she's home soon.

@AlwaysLatte thank you, that’s was really informative. Esp as my nans ankles were swallow for weeks before she was in hospital
Last time (only a week ago) then as soon as she got home swelled up again.
My Nan bought a oximeter but stopped using it due to her oxygen levels being really low. She also had a copd nurse a couple of years ago, but as soon as her oxygen levels were low she wanted her to go to hospital Nan wouldn’t then she didn’t want them coming so they discharged. She hates hospitals it don’t help
As they ask her so many times to sign a dnr form and it freaks her out! I think with copd being in and out of hospital may become
A thing.
Is your dad on oxygen all the time?
My Nan has had it years the last 2 years it’s got a lot worse just sitting she is out of breath but she is so stubborn.it’s hard seeing her so
Poorly and she is trying to hide it
From me (I’m like her daughter as she brought me up since I was a baby) my mum is in hospital with end stage cirrhosis and I’m
35 weeks pregnant with baby 4 so she is
Also trying to not stress me out. (Unlike my mum who I had to sort care out for 😂🤦🏼‍♀️)
