Why do I always wake up wet through?

Every single morning, just before alarm, I wake up with my clothes and sheets wet through. Not just a bit damp, but vest could be wrung, visible damp patches on the bed wet.

I'm not aware of being too hot the night, it doesn't disturb my sleep (except occasionally when I wake up cold because I'm wet) and it doesn't seem like how people describe creeping hot flushes.

I'm the right age (51) but it doesn't seem like what my friends describe.

There are hot flushes snd there are night sweats. From what I understand, they're different. So these are night sweats?

BrilloPaddy · 15/08/2021 08:36

Have your GP check your blood sugar levels. I went through a bad patch of this (I'm 50 and diabetic) and assumed menopause but it was actually my blood sugars (there's a thing called dawn phenomenon) where your liver dumps excess glucose. They changed my medication and it now rarely happens.

frenchnovice · 15/08/2021 08:37

That's almost definitely peri menopause

TheQueef · 15/08/2021 08:38

Night sweats.
I slept in towels so I could change quick when I froze.
Winter is worse.

ChefsFloozie · 15/08/2021 08:53

Vitamin D deficiency can cause night sweats so might be worth trying supplements?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/08/2021 08:59

You're 51,it's night sweats .

tiredanddangerous · 15/08/2021 09:04

Please go and see your GP and don't just assume that the sweating is due to your age. There are other conditions that can cause it that you need to have ruled out.

ZealAndArdour · 15/08/2021 09:05

Drenching night sweats are a bit of a red flag for some other conditions, not just the menopause so you definitely need to see your GP for some bloods and things.

Farevalah · 15/08/2021 09:12

Echo what other posters have said, pop along to your GP who should arrange some blood tests.
It probably is just meno but best to be sure.

Love the idea of "popping along to GP". You can't get a telephone appointment for 3 weeks..

echo what others have said about seeing your gp. also Google dr Louise newson. she has an excellent website about the menopause, and some excellent books. getting well informed will serve you well

Farevalah · 15/08/2021 09:26

😂 Maybe pop along wasn't the best choice of phrase op!

HangingOver · 15/08/2021 09:26

Deffo go to GP. My DM was a similar age and had the same thing and assumed it was menopause and it wasn't.

Bluntness100 · 15/08/2021 09:29

Night sweats, you’re menopausal. They pass when you’re through it

BumBurnerBum · 15/08/2021 09:53

I've started getting thus but am only 40. Could it be peri for me too?

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 15/08/2021 09:55

Another vote for see the GP and do not assume menopause....even if this means waiting for weeks. My GP saw me same day for the same issue. Some practices are really failing people.

ExpressDelivery · 15/08/2021 10:01

I've been having it occasionally since DS2 was born when I was 35, but lately it's every day

@ExpressDelivery excessive sweating at night can be indicative of many different things, including cancer. Please do call your GP. Hopefully it is just your hormones but there's a chance it isn't.
