Can you contract measles even if fully vaccinated?

I did already post a thread about what most likely is a cold / mild virus and my symptoms.

However, I do happen to have all of the symptoms of measles except a rash (but I know the measles rash takes a few days).

The symptoms are white spots in my throat (not tonsil stones), sore red eyes (like conjunctivitis), aching limbs, shivery and very tired. No fever as of yet.

I am fully vaccinated, had both MMR at the normal ages but that was 20 years ago.

Obviously it probably isn’t measles, and if I don’t get a rash I definitely don’t think it is but it has got me wondering

So yeah, has anyone contracted measles despite full vaccination ?

Yes my daughter has. She was about three/ four. She didn’t get it as bad as she would have done had she not been vaccinated. Attenuated measles the dr called it.

If herd immunity drops enough then vaccinated are t risk of infection as no vaccine offers 100% protection

@Tlollj

Thanks for your reply, if this is measles (which I do think unlikely) I feel rotten and this is after 2 vaccinations, I can’t imagine how awful full blown measles would be

@endlesscraziness thanks, that is what I thought but I think I naively hoped otherwise

Yes one MMR confers 95% immunity, the second dose raises that to 96/97% but still not 100% effective. Have you been in contact with measles?

Gakatsbsk · 12/08/2021 06:11

@Cattitudes thanks, and not that I know of but due to my job I come into contact with a lot of people, and some are probably unvaccinated . Obviously it could be a cold, early flu, covid or one of its variants etc etc but my throat does resemble the white/grey dots that happen with measles

Ok apparently there’s been no cases of measles in Scotland since 2019, so I’m starting to feel it’s very unlikely. If it was measles I’d apparently develop the rash in the next few days.

I’m PCR testing today, and also double covid vaccinated just in case anyone wondered 😂
