I'm 12 weeks pregnant and may have breast cancer

Found a lump in my breast a few days ago but to be fair it could of been there for a while. I went to the gp yesterday expecting her to reassure me and say it was just pregnancy related changes and that it was nothing to worry about. But she was concerned and has asked me to return in 2 weeks when if it is still there she will refer me to breast clinic.
Whilst examining me she did say it felt soft and moveable yet when I feel it it just feels hard and thickened and definately doesn't move. Does anyone know why this is significant?
Last night in bed i had a really good feel of my breasts and have found a small second lump under my arm pit that i'm sure the gp did not examine
My questions are why is she waiting 2 weeks to refer me? What can I expect will I have weeks to wait for an appointment or once referred will everything happen quite quickly? What can i expect?

Frosty, I'm so sorry to hear this, on top of your M/s it must be terrifying.

I haven't the experience to answer your post properly but bumping for you because someone here will know xx

hertsnessex · 29/11/2007 09:47

I dont have experience - did find a lump - but it wasnt cancerous. I would go back to your dr again - show her the other lump - and get referred straight away. She is obviously gonig to see if it changes ina couple of weeks - but for your piece of mind she may refer you earlier.

Columbia · 29/11/2007 09:47

I would ring and speak to her and say you have a second lump you're worried about, could she refer you NOW rather than waiting.

Anna8888 · 29/11/2007 09:50

Frosty - how very, very worrying.

I second what Columbia says - ring your GP and insist on seeing her again ASAP and on getting an immediate referral.

ConnorTraceptive · 29/11/2007 09:51

Oh frosty you poor thing, I know you've got bad morning sickness too at the mo (hope I've got the right person)

I've no experience but I would imagine she is waiting 2 weeks to see if the lump disapears. From what I know when it comes to referrals anything that could possible be cancer related is usually seen in 2 weeks.

The lump in your armpit could be a gland.

TBH I would go back to your gp now mention the second lump and ask for a referral now to put your mind at rest.

I hope like most lumps it turns out to be nothing.

mears · 29/11/2007 09:56

I wouls also get back to GP for referral. She is probably waiting 2 weeks to see is it alters but since you have found another lump let her know. Best to be checked out - most probably is pregnancy related but best to be sure.

summer111 · 29/11/2007 16:42

I'd second everything everyone else has said. I found a lump in my side/armpit area which the GP thought was a cyst...I was so anxious that I asked for a referral to see a specialist which I was prepared to see privately. I just wanted a definitive answer and one asap. The GP gave me a specialists name, I phoned up the secretary that day and was seen two days later. The specialist had a look and a feel and said straight away that he was 99.9% certain it wasn't cancerous - but to reassure me nonetheless, he arranged for me to have a mamogram and ultrasound to confirm everything. It was just the reassurance I needed and so much better to have answers rather than the emmense stress of worrying for nothing.

Go get an appointment, fingers crossed it'll come to nothing. The very best of luck

hellobellosback · 29/11/2007 18:35

I was in the same position. Well done for going to the doc.

With my lump, they could find nothing immediately wrong and decided to leave it until the baby was born.

I left it a further year but the lump was still there. Since then I have had a diagnosis and a mastectomy.

Please try not to worry. Most of the breast care people I have come accross have been fantastic.

callmeovercautious · 30/11/2007 12:49

I have a lump like this, when it first appeared (years ago now) I went to the GP and he said it was probably a "Breast Mouse" as they are commonly known (if you Google it you will get some good info). They are not Cancerous just hardened Breast tissue and they move around when you push them. That is probably the significance. Cancerous lumps tend to be fixed.

I went for all the tests anyway just to check and it was fine, they left it in and I have BF DD for 15m now no problems.

Having said all that I would go back and point out the other lump as it may have been missed and may be significant. Hope all goes well for you!

biglips · 30/11/2007 12:52

i remembered when i had a lump under my armpit and thought "Oh no!"....Docs advsd me that it was a pregnancy-related lump...it went as soon i had my DD.

widgypog · 30/11/2007 16:38

Hi..I had/have a lump which I would describe as malleable. I went to gp and was refered straight away as I have loads of breast cancer in my family and after LOADS of tests it turned out to be a fibroidanoma or something. But anyway go back and say you want to start tests NOW. i wasnt pregnant when I had mine but when I was pregnant I did have swollen milk glnas so maybe that is what she thought it might be but dont take the risk ..go back!! I am yet to fina a Gp who actually does anything unless you stamo your feet!!!!

frostythesnowmum · 05/12/2007 14:33

Went back to my gp today - a week early and she had another feel and referred me to breast clinic. Apparently they will see me within 2 weeks and I may even get a diagnosis before xmas.
My morning sickness is still bad although I have been prescribed something else to try but they were not in stock so I couldn't get them today.
And my ds has been spiking a temperature for 3 days - I thought he was brewing a cold bug but the snot has just been joined by vomiting so all in all life sucks right now

no advice I'm afraid frosty - just wanted to say good luck though..also read in paper today ( yesterday's London Evening Standard) that according to Dr Mark Porter that time isn't always im portant ...to quote ' Breast cancer tumours can take two to three years to grow to a stager where they can be felt and a few more weeks won't make a difference. Indeed , the evidence suggests that even a delay of a few months is unlikely to affect the outcome'. Don't know whether that's any comfort xxx

frostythesnowmum · 05/12/2007 14:51

Thanks it is a lot of comfort. I feel like a ticking time bomb right now and info like this makes me feel much better - thank-you

Just seen this. Hope you are doing ok frosty.

frostythesnowmum · 15/12/2007 15:41

HI sorry I didn't post sooner.
Well I went on thursday and was seen by the registar and I had an ultra sound that came back clear however the dr. still wasn't 100% and didn't want to needle biopsy at this time as apparently if your pg your results always come back abnormal even if you are cancer free and it can be very upsetting and lead to unneccessary invasive procedures. She has booked me an appointment for 4 weeks time where I will be reassessed.
To be fair I am very much relieved as if there was a rip roaring cancer there it would of been obvious and they would of dealt with it. As things stand it is either a very early tumour or a normal change most likely related to my pregnancy.
The clinic was a real eye opener and very busy - I was there for 4 hrs and there was a lot of waiting but really it was excellent. There was a real mixture of ages of the patients and some people where obviously given really bad news which was very sad .
