i would please like some advice , my dad was rushed into hopital with Acute pancreatitis, he was critical for a few days and in icu for a week, once stable he contracted the mrsa bug so in total he was in hospital for 5 weeks. he has lost two stone in weight and looks so ill. the illness was caused by stones and he will have to have a gall bladder op once he is well enough, is there a big chance that the pain will flair up again before he has the op?

we bought him home yesturday the day after he finished his two weeks of anti biotics for the mrsa, they did not swab him again to make sure that the bug has cleared and i'm really worried about taking the kids round to see him as i don't know if he still has it. we asked at the hospital if he would have another test and they said no because he was now not showing any signs of mrsa(symptons wise) please if anyone has had the mrsa or knows someone that has could you advise me on weither this is common practise not to be tested after treatment.

AFAIK...To catch hospital NRSA you really need to be run down physically, recovering from a major surgery or other large/deep open (cut into skin) injury. The bug only manages to colonise big wounds in vulnerable people. I wouldn't hesitate to visit him or take my kids (unless DC are immuno-compromised, have a feeding tube or other large open wound themselves).

MIL has been through similar.

She went in to hosp mid Sept for surgery to remove gall stones and isn't home yet! She is in a respite home just now and may be home this weekend. She has ended up with 4 ops for some reason (she is in UK and we are in Budapest so it's hard to find out exactly what is going on). She ended up with a collapsed lung due to a bad chest infection and then she developed MRSA. As far as I know she then had 3 tests done to make sure the MRSA was cleared - poss because she was going into the respite home and they didn't want it there.

Poor love - I feel so sorry for her. She has missed the last 3 months of her life. (Is normally very busy and active)
