Boot for foot fracture

Yesterday DH took a nasty tumble whilst doing some building work at home and landed heavily feet first in some rumble.

Spent most of the night in A&E where an X-ray detected a small chip in one of his foot bones. Sent home with crutches, pain relief and an appointment with the 'virtual' fracture clinic.

His foot is incredibly swollen and he can't bear any pressure or movement so I'm thinking I need to get him some sort of boot. As much as anything else it will be a visual deterrent to young DC and protect it against accidental knocks.

Not sure which boot to order though, seen a few on Amazon but would appreciate any recommendations.

Take a photo to your pharmacist? I think they can order such items. Although you'd think A and E would have supplied one if it was a good idea?

I would go back and ask the hospital, if it's really swollen and he cant weight bear at all they need to see him and recommend a support boot, brace or something that will help his fracture to heal.

I'm surprised he didn't get given one. I did when I broke my foot.

Maybe they don't want to encourage him to walk on it though?

Something like this. here

I had a taller version for an ankle fracture. Had to buy my own.

They would have given him one if he needed it to stabilise the fracture. If he’s swollen and can’t tolerate pressure then putting a boot on may make things worse by causing pressure areas. He’d be better off getting back in touch with the ED he went to if he’s worried still and taking their advice.

We were advise to buy one by our A&E as they just don't have enough to give out anymore & they definitely help.

PhysioRoom were recommended by my DDs physio & we've found ordering the correct one from there pretty easy

Suggest resting and elevating the foot above hip height to try to get the swelling down.

Depends on which bone in the foot is broken, how had the break is etc.

Dh broke a bone in his foot a couple of years ago (running on the spot in bare feet), and was just told to be careful with it. He found walking slightly difficult, but could cycle (he wears the proper clip on cycle shoes) without pain.

The boot above looks good though, and is inflatable, so can be adjusted as the swelling goes down.

If you can get an appointment, best to have fitted by a physio.

Not a break or fracture, but two years ago I severely damaged the ligaments around my ankle - tripped on a rug and ended up with a downhill skier injury. Physio was amazing, referred to from my GP following an MRI. I was fitted me with the correct boot and follow up appointments once it came off. You need to rehab ankles well as you can end up with bad arthritis as you age.

Gosh I wish we could edit. *I was fitted with....

I'm not sure why a and e didn't give you an airboot ?
