Someone please reassure me please!! DS woke up this morning in distress. He was choking and was struggling to catch his breath. Once i grabbed him and started patting his back he brought up some phlegm.
After he calmed down i gave him some breast milk and he was just falling asleep again when he threw up all over me and my bed. he's thrown up like 4 times since then and the last time was like a scene from The Exorcist!
Took him to see our gp who said he's fine but I'm not so sure.
I'm really scared he'll throw up in his sleep again and i wont hear or something...it doesn't bear thinking about!
Someone please reassure me.

How old is he? Projectile vomiting not unknown in babies, but of course you are worried, I would be too. You could try looking on the NHS Direct website for more info.

he's 10 months old. he's never had anything like this before. i actually rang nhs direct before i took him to the doctors
they told me not to worry but i took him doctors anyway just to be sure.

Sorry ayisha, got called away from MN. If NHS Direct and GP think he's OK, I'd try not to worry too much, but go back if anything changes.

Projectile vomiting is alarming but it seems to be something that most babies do at some stage!

I'm a second time mum, but believe it or not my nearly 4 yr old dd has never really thrown up (only a bit of milk when coughing, years ago). So last week was my first ever experience of a vomiting bug - and it was my 11 month old who got it: I was anxious too.

THe main thing to keep an eye on is that your ds stays hydrated - if he's able to keep some water down, thats great. If he's able to keep some breast milk down, thats great too. Small amounts often are easiest, if its a bug. My GP said: if they're crying wet tears, good. If they're wetting nappies, good. If you press a fingernail and it turns pink again within two seconds of letting it go, good. All signs that your baby is hydrated a reasonable amount.

Do you have a monitor? If so, you'll hear him cough if he throws up in his sleep?

Hopefully the worst of the vomiting should be over soon - I was told they usually last about 24-48 hours, though my dd had the runs (and occasional vomit) for a whole week after the initial pukey stage.

Good luck, hope he's better v soon!
