She's had cold after cold in the last few weeks and over the last 10 days, has had a nasty cough. On Friday she had sticky eyes, so Dr gave her drops for conjunctivitis. She has been sick at least once a day since then - sometimes very liquidy and at other times, very hard and dry - diarhhoea since then, very frequent - I assume due to mucous and phlegm. Until yesterday, she was drinking plenty - off her food altogether but drinking formula and water.

Yesterday DH took her to GP who said that cough and general illness is viral and she just needs to get over it, watch out for wet nappies etc, keep her drinking and Calpol.

Today am really struggling to get liquids and pain meds into her - she's really ratty and wobbly - seems to want to sleep all the time, but the cough seems very painful and keeps waking her up. She's had a few oz milk and as many sips of water as I can get into her but isn't having wet nappies at all.

Am unsure what to do, really, she's been to the GP as many times in the last 2 weeks as she has in her first year (3) - don't want to be neurotic parent, but really worried about her - cough is horrible and painful, can't get fluids or meds into her.....worse because my glands are up and I feel awful, too, so may be overreacting.

Any advice gratefully received.... TIA

If she isn't having wet nappies I would definitely have her seen again, as that is a sign of dehydration!

no wet nappies is a sign of dehdration. she should be seen again ASAP , aswell as being sleepy. call NHS direct, 0845 46 47, she should be seen tonight.

sucking on a flannel or an icepop might help. and you can give water via a medicine syringe a few mils at a time..

but definitely get her seen

OK, thanks. Will call local dr service - she's having a nap again now, will try more fluids when she wakes up and check nappy and then call in the troops - thanks - feel like I've been haranguing them

No doctor or nurse will have a 2nd thought about seeing her if she's having no wet nappies. Def get her seen.

Hope she's better soon.

Thanks for your support. Was feeling better as there was a wet nappy when she got up and then she drank a good amount of fluids, but she's just brought them all back up, so it's back to the Dr plan now.

Good luck, squishy - hope she's been/being seen. My dd same age just went through a horrible sick/diarrhoea bug (having had endless colds/coughs since Sept, courtesy of big sis at pre-school) and was on the verge of dehydration at one point - no question, NHS direct said get her seen. Just before we did, she held down 4oz of water - and slowly started to get better. It still took a week after that for her to eat, though

Let us know how she is - and hope she turns that corner v soon.
