Recuperation home after op?

Does anyone know of such a thing as a 'home' where one can recuperate and be cared for after an operation? Do such things exist any more?

NHS used to have convalescent homes but they were done away with years ago.

In some areas the NHS contracts beds in nursing homes for up to 8 weeks but this is for people who need ongoing rehabilitation and care which is quite different from convalescing. Most nursing homes are for elderly/ dementia so not necessarily a great environment for recuperating from an op.

Perhaps a private hospital or private rehabilitation unit which will take someone convalescing for a week.

However it is generally accepted now that people recover better in their own home environment. It's much more likely that someone would get some short term help put in to look after them at home.

Depends on the op and the time of a recovery process. NHS has rehab units offering physio, therapies and nursing care but beds are sought after.

As it happens, not much nursing is required, tho physio is. Problem lies mainly in the state of the home environment. Not fit, and now (as of today, water is turned off due to leaks, but electricity is restored...).

Op was fairly major, but recovery miraculous! Or rather, op was miraculous Grin with little pain or aftermath. Healing required internally but not externally so infection from state of home unlikely.

Convalescence was the word I was looking for!

I completely understand what you’re asking for but sadly they don’t exist these days - I recently mentioned to dh that what I really need is to be sent to a convalescent home for about 3 months minimum - a nice one in a seaside town where I can be wheeled onto the balcony to take in the views and fresh sea air, my meals can be brought on a tray and, if I need it, a kindly dr will pop to see me and administer some gentle medicine to help me recover 😆……. IF ONLY!!!! Get well soon op!

I equired about this when I came home after major cancer op as I live on my own. No at home follow up care offered. Wanted a couple of weeks respite care. However, with Covid I dont think anywhere like a nursing home or care home would want to take others in. Apart from the fact two places didnt even bother to respond to my enquiries!

BUPA provide convalescent care according to their website - it no doubt comes at a price though

Hope you find something op.
If you do, I might book myself inWink

My lovely mil was booked into one for nearly a month, after a hysterectomy, many years ago.

What about a hotel with room service?
