Blood in DD's poo (TMI alert)

Have seen the doctor twice and been told she probably has anal fissures as it always happens when she is constipated but am still worried because it's happened on and off for ages. She is also in pain when going and is already on lactulose. I give her lots of fibre rich food and she drinks plenty of water. I suppose really I am worried it could be something more sinister.

I'd tell them you want an appointment with a specialist just to make sure. If you're GP is only guessing ("it's probably fissures") then I'd want to make sure.

My DS had this and our GP referred him to a paediatrician. After tests, they have now diagnosed coeliac disease (and he had none of the other usual symtoms of this). It is certainly worth getting a referral to have her checked out.

My ds, 15 months, has had constipation from birth and has been lucky enough to be closely monitored by a consultant because of DS1's illness.

Although she is permanently constipated and has never really done a normal poo, despite lactulose, they have done an ultrasound scan of her abdomen and are happy that it's nothing sinister.

She had a nappy full of blood back in October and they were sure it was caused by a rupture due to straining. It has not happened since.

I think you need to push for the referal, if nothing else, it will put your mind at rest.
