Nurse hit a nerve during blood test.

I went for a blood test on Thursday, nurse couldn't feel a vein properly so stuck the needle into my elbow ditch and poked around, cue her hitting a nerve. A severe sharp pain shot down my arm and my hand sezied up. She immediately pulled the needle out and said she must of hit the nerve. Since then my arm has been in agony, keeps seizing up still and paracetamol and ibruofen aren't touching it. Has anyone had this happen to them and got any suggestions on how to alleviate the pain?

Codeine or cocodamol? Hot water bottle? Sounds awfully painful, hope you feel better soon Flowers

I think this happened to me, but rather than pain my lower arm went partially numb after. Sorry no advice, but it got better on its own over a few weeks as far as I remember. I avoid needles in that arm now.

This happened to me during my epidural. Although the pain has gone and numb areas have returned, I still feel the area a lot. Not pain, I just feel something there. Always. It's weird. Hope it gets better OP.

Yeah this happened just a few weeks ago. Nurse was trying to get a canula in and put it in my wrist. Cue instant lightening pain in the fingers. Told the nurse this and was breezly told" oh that will be the tourniquet!". Said nurse got very miffed when i told her it was agony and she had to take it out. Cue spurting blood everywhere. She got even more miffed when i wouldnt let her put it in other wrist and demanded a doctor and a ultrasound. Wrist and fingers were agony for about 2 weeks then went on its own. I have gabapentin for sciatica and found that and a sling worked the best.

Happened to me during my lumbar puncture. It felt like electric shocks going into my left leg and hip. They're meant to pull the needle back if that happens. I told the dr doing it and he told me he was no where near my nerves and shoved the needle in even further. I now have nerve damage in my back

I had this happen to me once. Awful pain. I just tried to move the arm as little as possible, & waited it out. I seem to remember the surgery putting my arm in a sling to immobilize it - I woke up on the floor & had to be carried out, so it's a bit hazy.

It's difficult finding the right place on my arms to get my bloods, I don't know why? I drink water in advance, I think it helps a little to prepare my veins for the blood taking.
