UTI, feel awful

Hi
On Tuesday I felt uncomfortable with my urethra so I rang the doctor who asked for a sample and said I have a uti. I was given trimethoprim, 2 days later I felt so much worse. The doctor said there were high levels of white cells and perhaps I needed a stronger antibioti so she gave me co-amoxiclav. Yesterday I felt a bit brighter but not enough to get out of bed. Today, I feel awful again. My temp is 37.3, I feel hotter and generally rubbish.
Can anyone advise on if this is normal with a uti please? I'm really struggling mentally today.
Thanks.

How many days of the new antibiotic have you had? If it’s 2/3 and not helping I’d seek medical advice as you may need a different one again. Make sure you’re drinking lots and lots of fluids.

I suffered from endless UTIs in early menopause and some did make me feel really rotten for several days.

Keep up with the antibiotics, regular painkillers (not just when you feel crap), lots of fluids, small healthy snacks, and lie on the sofa pampering yourself if that's what floats your boat. Flowers

Also a Hot water bottle can ease the pain, some breathing exercise to calm your nervous system down.

Hot baths help to relax the pelvic muscles around the infection as you'll be tense.

If you like herbal teas? Soothing flavours the pukka have a great range.

And go easy on yourself they are so so distracting and painful and keep an eye on temperature, but it sounds normal for an infection.

I would call your GP in case you have a kidney infection, rather than a straightforward UTI.
Both can make you feel brain foggy.
Hope you feel better soon OP.

Thanks all,
I dont have any pain at all.
I've had not quite 2 full days of the new antibiotics now.
I've been in perimenopause for 5 years so I assume its part of that?

Menopause can cause vaginal dryness which can really contribute to recurrent and difficult UTIs. Ovestin internal oestrogen cream really helps, as does systemic Hrt - the oestrogen cream is very low dose oestrogen and doesn’t affect oestrogen levels in the blood in the same way. Oestrogen receptors are around the bladder so if you are low on oestrogen there it can cause all sorts of issues. Personally I would be tempted to ring 111 and explain how you feel and ask for a different antibiotic.

What @Bagelsandbrie said was exactly my problem (I was also in a newish relationship which really didn't help things) and HRT was the solution including internal oestrogen cream.

I felt a bit better for some of the day but feel rubbish again. My temp is 36.7 in one ear and 37.3 in the other so not raging. I haven't called 111 because I don't feel like going anywhere and sitting for ages. I'm assuming this is part of it and I will be up and down for a bit.

In case anyone gets recurrent utis my mother does, and I recently got her to try taking D mannose available at health food stores or even Amazon after hearing about them in a magazine. Absolutely brilliant no more utis. There is a treatment and prevention dose. Abs can take a couple of days to work OP hopefully you feel better soon.

Choccymumma · 31/07/2021 17:53

I've just spoken to 111 for advice and they would like to see me, thanks everyone.

Update, I saw out of hours yesterday. I had a high temp but the hospital was hot and had a mask on so don't think that helped. He tested my urine and it was clear so he said the abs were doing their job. Said that chest and urine infection are the worst things to have in terms of feeling poorly. Hes right, day 4 and although my hubby says I'm brighter I still feel rubbish. The doc did say the the abs were strong and they would make me feel poorly too. Hopefully I'll be much better soon. Thanks all.
