Do you think this is pompholyx eczema? It goes through cycles each week (had it a few months now) where it comes out in tiny blisters under the skin then it kind of dries and flakes off. It is incredibly itchy, uncomfortable, and really unsightly.

I've spoken the the pharmacist a couple of weeks ago who recommended daktarin but said I'd have to go the the GP / Nurse for a prescription as my skin had broken. I actually had a tube at home so I've been using it but it's not improving it at all.

I have tried to get through to the GP today and a few times last week but I give up before getting through.

I've tried looking through the NHS website and nothing really looks the same but pompholyx is the closest.

Could be. Your final pic definitely looks like it. How are your feet

MyNameForToday1980 · 26/07/2021 19:36

IME (not a doc) 10/10 yes.

Take that to the doctor, the 'golden sheen' indicates infection. My hands were like this last summer, antibiotics and hand cream, steroid cream, and prescribed handwash knocked it right on the head.

ShakespearesSisters · 26/07/2021 19:41

I have this, well I think so. Completely self diagnosed thanks to sporners corner Grin
Mine affects my feet. Its particularly bad at the moment in my one foot. I've previously used 1% hydrocortisone but was on the phone to the GP the other say about HRT and she has prescribed me some stronger cortico steroid cream. To be fair I've not had an "official" diagnosis but she was happy to prescribed.
It seems to be working. The area is looking much better and less itchy.

Containergardener · 26/07/2021 19:41

Looks very similar to my hands. Ive a general eczema/contact dermatitis diagnosis. I use hydrocortisone when it flares up and fucibet when it looks infected. Key to keeping under control is moisturise and use gloves for everything, even chopping up fruit and veg - not just chemicals. Things like hand sanitiser and sun cream, harsh soaps make it flare up. Hope you find something to help,

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 26/07/2021 19:47

I've had this on my palm for the first time this year. My GP prescribed Eumovate. It clears up, then flares up again - apparently it can tie in with hayfever.

I completely empathise, the itching is awful!

MyNameForToday1980 · 26/07/2021 19:50

I'm gonna shout it this time... GOLDEN SHEEN = INFECTION.

Last summer when my hands looked like this the doctor said I was on the edge of cellulitis.

Containergardener · 26/07/2021 19:52

Mine is under control no where near like yours at the moment! You can get hydrocortisone over the counter.

I've had this on my foot and dear God the itch! It appeared out of nowhere and cleared up just as suddenly.

It's the same as mine so yes looks like it.

You need very strong prescription steroid cream.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 26/07/2021 19:55

Yeah that looks like good old pompholyx! Mine is hands and feet. I try to avoid the steroid cream for as long as possible but it's the only thing that helps!

MyNameForToday1980 · 26/07/2021 19:59

Haha Smile thank you @itchyhand

I just don't want your hand dropping off.

It's SO itchy and so sore isn't it? I was amazed that after a few days of antibiotics it was almost entirely healed.

MyNameForToday1980 · 26/07/2021 20:00

Day 1 my hands looked like yours... This is day 3

I had this, OP. The itching woke me up at night and was driving me crazy. It's much better since I stopped using hand sanitizer. I just wash with soap and water now.

BaronessOfTheNorth · 26/07/2021 20:48

Looks exactly like it to me but you'd need to see a doctor.

WineInTheBlood · 26/07/2021 20:55

I would say almost certainly yes. I've had it for 25ish years so feel your pain.
Do you happen to be allergic to nickel? Jewellery, watches etc?

intothewoodss · 26/07/2021 21:06

I get this periodically, I am in the middle of a breakout actually after not having one for ages. I get it when I'm overtired and stressed.

Ohnoohnoohnonononono · 26/07/2021 21:10

It looks like dermatitis herpetiformis to me. I get a v similar rash to yours when I eat gluten.

InteriorDesignHell · 26/07/2021 21:15

Looks like it, I get it, some sorts of wine sets it off in me. Keep a rough food diary in case you have a trigger.

If mine gets terribly itchy, I run really hot water over it until it feels really good (hard to describe) and then the itch is gone and I can apply ointment to treat without just scratching it off in the next five minutes. IANAD but possibly the hot water does something with histamine levels? 🤷‍♀️

NiceTwin · 26/07/2021 21:31

None of the steroid creams touched mine (feet only) but potassium permanganate has finally done the trick.

blahblahblah321 · 26/07/2021 22:00

Yep, I have it and the bastards itch like anything!! Angry

Bryonyshcmyony · 26/07/2021 22:03

I have this and have finally realised its a reaction to gardening with no gloves!

Germolenequeen · 26/07/2021 22:07

Yes have this chronically & my skin is too thin for steroid cream now - the only thing I can use is Germolene

GrimDamnFanjo · 27/07/2021 00:13

I have had several bouts of this it drove me nuts. I think mines is stress and heat related.
