Pregnant. Feel very unwell. Noro? But nobody else in the home is ill

Took DD to DS's half term party on Wednesday, Thursday morning she woke up being sick and was sick 3-4 times then was fine.

Friday eve I came over unwell which I initially thought was reflux/heartburn as I'm 6 months pregnant but soon became apparent it wasn't that as I was vomiting continuously for 12-14 hours and couldn't keep anything down not even water. I then had two mild episodes of diahorrea.

Vomited once on Saturday night then nothing further but I still feel so incredibly drained and poorly. No appetite and no energy. Upper stomach ache and wind but can't go to the toilet now.

DP and DS are absolutely fine with no signs of illness and DD was right as rain within a few hours of her sickness period which we put down to the hot weather to begin with.

Does this sound like noro? How can I feel so unwell if nobody else does?

It's not covid and I haven't eaten anything bad.

She had a sick bug.

You picked it up from her.

That’s all.

Wouldn't a sickness bug usually sweep through the entire household though?

Sounds like Noro...comes on fast and same symptoms i had...then it passes...awful thing to have tho.....

ODFOD21 · 26/07/2021 15:03

You should ring your midwives to keep them in the the loop. Can't remember what they say about D&V whilst pregnant?

I don't suppose you had aching arms/legs too did you? I forgot to include that in my OP but my legs were absolutely throbbing. I read online that can be a symptom of noro too.

Don't get me wrong I'm relieved that DP and DS didn't get ill (yet - touch wood) I'm just a bit baffled as afaik it's quite contagious and DD obviously picked it up from the nursery.

Usually but not always. And remember your immune system will be impacted by the pregnancy.

I was sick quite a lot late on in my second pregnancy, well after the morning sickness had finally gone. I used to get into a bit of a vicious circle of not eating because I was sick, which led to keytones which made me more sick. The doctor recommended trying to sip lucazade when I felt like that.

bloodywhitecat · 26/07/2021 15:06

Sickness bugs don't always wipe out an entire household the same as norovirus doesn't and being pregnant can make you more susceptible to catching bugs. I hope you feel better soon.

I had a midwife appointment booked in for this morning but had to rearrange for next as we couldn't risk passing it on to her / newborn babies, she's asked me to keep her updated with regards to how I'm doing in the week.

I'm eating little bits where possible and making sure I'm well hydrated now though.

No they don’t always sweep through the whole household, especially with good handwashing, using a separate hand towel if you’re unwell etc. Hope you feel better soon.

Noro is indeed quite contagious but I once had noro for a whole week and DH didn't catch it so it's possible.

JHchristsendhalp · 26/07/2021 15:10

Thanks for the replies ladies.

It probably is noro then, gah it's horrid. I expected to feel better quite quickly after the sickness stopped as that's what the NHS website will have you believe.

Hopefully it doesn't take too long to bugger off. I can't function Blush

Was the sickness lasting the whole week?

Sorry to read others here have had it too!

I'm normally the last person standing when an infection like noro hits work. DP can be chucking his guts up next to me and I'm at worst a little queasy.

My immune system is tough as old boots - except for when I'm pregnant and I catch everything.

Lucosade really helps, though.

My DP is like you, you lucky pair.

I had covid last year and he didn't catch it, or if he did then he was asymptomatic.

Similarly I've had coughs and colds and he has been fine.

I do have a crap immune system generally though, plus pregnancy now..

Naively I thought anything D&V related would mean everybody in the house is screwed, so to speak.

At least half of us are ok Smile
