Please give me some advice on blood clot on lung

Please, please can someone give me some advice.

My husband had a knee operation just over a week ago & was then taken back into hospital on Sat night with suspected blood clot on his lung, due to a sickness bug at the hospital I have been unable to visit him & am worried sick,

I have spoken to him a few times on the phone, but as of yet we still do not know for certain it is a blood clot. He has had a chest x-ray, which came back with a grey area & an ultrasound scan of his leg which he should get the results for today. The pain did go away but came back yesterday not as bad & my husband said the pain had moved (it was just under the left of his nipple & had moved to the right.) Please does anyone know if it is still normal to get some pain once you are geting the injections), I have spoken to our doctor who is great & said that everything they have done is the right thing, in the right order but I am just worried that something awful is going to happen to him, this is made a 100 times worse as I have not seen him since Sat (did not go up to the hospital on sat evening with him as I had to stay with the children, he went with his brother so I have had no info direct from any doctor) & will not see him for a least the next couple of days.

Hi Natasha 1 haven't read rest of thread but your dh will probably be put on anticoagulants (blood thinning drugs)Initially this will be in injection form, and the docs/nurses will be taking his blood at least daily to monitor his blood clotting levels. He may need to be having some oxygen to help him if he is very breathless but this will be tapered off as his condition improves. The clot busters work pretty efficiently to dissolve the clot.A scan will be taken to confirm there definitely is a clot. After being on the clot busting injections the medical staff will then initiate treatment with a clot busting drug, usually warfarin. It takes a while for the levels of warfarin to settle to a dose that works just right for dh,and he will probably still be having his blood checked daily. He will probably go home on the warfarin and have his blood levels monitored by GP on a regular basis.

Hopefully he will be right as rain soonSending you best wishes xx

FWIW I can fully empathise as dp developed a PE and had a large clot in his main vein (not surgery related but part of a complex autoimmune condition).

I have been nursing a few years but was in a total panic when I saw dp pale and breathless and in pain, even though I reckon I should be used to it by now I was a total wimp when it came to seeing him so poorly!!He is still having clot busting injections as they cannot stabilise his levels on warfarin and he keeps bleeding on it.Grr typical dp has to be difficult!!!(13 weeks in hossy and counting!!!)

Hi Natasha1

Sounds like you have had a really stressful day. Try and relax and enjoy the wine

It sounds as if your dh is making progress - it can be slow, but it does sound positive.
I hope he continues to improve. It s a very painful condition - I am glad the pain seems to be lessening.

Wrinklytum - sorry to hear about your dp. It sounds like he is having a rotten time.

wrinklytum - I am so sorry to hear about your dp, I really can't imagine what you are going through, thanks for sharing your story & advice with me. Hopefully he will be better soon. Sending you my best wishes.

3little frogs - Well my dh is home!!! I turns out that thankfully the scan did not show a PE but small area of pneumonia.
I am so happy that he is home & that it is not a blood clot.

Thank you all so very much for spending the time expaining things to me & re-assuring me that it would all be ok.

Best wishes to you all, especially 3little frogs - thank you, thank you, thank you.

Well - thank goodness for that .

What a relief. Lots of deep breathing exercises (him, not you) and plenty of fluids.

Hope he is better soon.
