Every winter, I get very dry skin at each side of my mouth and around my chin. It is very flakey and xdry and occsionally itchy and nothihng I put on it works.

I have tried E45, Vasaline, Olive Oil, Cream the doc gave me for dry skin on my hands, and several other dry skin creams, but nothing works.

I went to bed last night with my chin and mouth smothered in cream, left it to soak in etc but my face was just as bad if not worse this morning.

What else can I try ?

nutcracker · 26/11/2007 17:49

Ahh thats the one I was trying to think of CD

Not heard of rosehip oil but will look for that too.

I'd try anything at the mo as i look a right state.

Before bed how about Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream - I've found it works for any random dry bits.

And during the day try Liz earle moisturiser (from QVC) the dry/sensitive one - over time it would make a real difference to your skin.

Have a look here nutty

Blossomhill · 26/11/2007 17:51

bio oil is good too

nutcracker · 26/11/2007 17:51

Thanks, that looks like a good site.

Not sure i can aford those Laurie, might have to try the cheaper stuff first.

This sounds a bit back to front nutcracker, but I have found my skin a lot less dry since using microdermabrasion a couple of times a week. I thuoght it would make my skin more dry, but it seems to make the cream I use more effective somehow.

Lauriefairycake · 26/11/2007 18:20

The Liz Earle one is £25.00 for two pots - each lasted me 3 months, so thats £4 a month. Cheaper than many Nivea type stuff

The Elizabeth Arden stuff I've had for 4 years , only need to use it a couple of times a year and it doesn't go off as far as I'm aware - use it on stings/sunburn too but sparingly

Scootergrrrl · 26/11/2007 18:24

We have the 8-hour cream v cheap over here (army base in Germany). It's really amaxing for anything like dry sore skin.
I can send you a little pot over with the wellies if you like (check your other thread!)

Anna8888 · 26/11/2007 18:30

I think you might be lacking in vitamins or minerals to have such dry skin at the sides of your mouth. Are you eating properly - ie a balanced diet?

nutcracker · 26/11/2007 18:42

Scootergirl, I think I might have already sorted some size 2 wellies, but thanks anyway. I might take you up on the offer of the cream, but i'm going to try aveeno first i think.

I knew someone would ask about my diet and tbh it is not fab, but not all that bad either really. I eat veg most days, but don't eat much fruit tbh. I will try and increase that though.

It seems to be the cold that sets it off.

Right, after much debating in Boots, one of their assistants reccomended Oilatum natural repair face cream, so I got that.

She said she has used it on her face and it was really good, so fingers crossed it works as it was £7.50

make sure you're drinking plenty of water.
