Infected partially erupted wisdom tooth

DH has what I think (dr google) an infection in a partially erupted wisdom tooth.
He has always had a flappy bit near the lower left tooth but since Friday has pain on and off around the flappy bit and its red.
Hes not registered with a dentist (me and kids are). My dentist can't see him for months.
I've told DH to use corsydyl, salt water and painkillers.
Does anyone know if he needs antibiotics or is it a case of could go on its own? Would it be 111 for this sort of thing to get an emergency dentist appt?

I used to get this quite a lot and always got antibiotics which cleared it up in no time. I don’t know if his GP would prescribe them? Alternatively call NHS24 (or your equivalent) and see what they say.

Try Peroxyl mouthwash

I had this and honestly if you can just go private, do it. I had to because my dentist couldn't fit me in. He will need antibiotics, it will clear up within a day of starting them and the dentist will clear the area out which provides instant relief.

Definitely ring 111. Those things can turn nasty if not treated ASAP. He probably just needs a course of antibiotics. Mine flares up like this from time to time and I have a course of antibiotics and use Corsodyl and then it calms down again. I’m on the waiting list to have it removed but it’s a long wait!

Thanks all.

Hes dosed up with painkillers and will ring 111 tomorrow.
He is of course blaming a piece of baguette uI baked last week..... apparently too hard Hmm

The dentist gave me a syringe with a flat needle and advised me to squirt corsodyl under the flappy bit after meals. It really helped with cleaning it! Not sure where you could get one though!

A cotton bud dipped in corsodyl and used under the flap of gum and then really thorough cleaning with his toothbrush should sort it out.
He'd only need antibiotics if there are other symptoms such as a temperature, pus or a failure to respond to this.

I'd get some of the tiny interdental brushes and brush/floss it as much as possible - this has always worked for me in similar circumstances.

Yes to corsodyl and regular hot salt washes. Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation. Not something to muck about with.

I had that and it happened to coincide with a check up. My dentist said just hold an electric toothbrush on the area for ages and it’ll go- and it did. Whenever it feels like that I do that and it’s fine.

I normally just brush well and use cordysl gel and it clears up
