Spotty bottom

I am at the end of my tether and desperate for ideas! My bottom and creeping down onto my thighs is hideously spotty, we are talking 10+ New pus filled spots per day and quite frankly horrible dark scarring. I have tried everything I can think of to clear it - cotton underwear, loose clothing, antibacterial washes, sudacrem, savlon, masks, exfoliating, not exfoliating. Argh!! I feel ridiculous going to the GP with this whilst they are under such pressure, but I am so embarrassed. Does anyone have any ideas/things they have successfully tried? Thankyou.

Could be connected with diabetes. Ask a pharmacist first, if you need confirmation that you're 'allowed' to consult your GP.

I had that a few years ago. Doc recommended giving the area a scrub with a flannel , every night in the shower, and then squirting rubbing alcohol on the skin. It smarted a bit ! But it worked really well, the skin healed up and after a few months the spots never came back. Good luck !

Ridingthegravytrain · 20/07/2021 07:42

I find talc on the area helps

Have you considered dermatitis herpetiformis?

It's an autoimmune condition, often linked to undiagnosed or untreated coeliac disease.

OhNoNoNoNoNo · 20/07/2021 08:10

Blimey. I'd make an appointment to see the Doctor for that. Good luck

Thanks everyone. A few things to think about there

I have this and the last time I went to the Dr they said it could be folliculitis deep into the skin and we're going to put me on long term antibiotics however I was breastfeeding at the time so couldn't take them and now I'm pregnant.
I find it's worse if I am hot. Itch in the night etc. I just try to get by with anti itch relief but as soon as I give birth I'm going for antibiotics!

FreeBritnee · 20/07/2021 08:14

I get that every time my diet slips and refined carbs/sugar slips in.

MilduraS · 20/07/2021 08:35

I have this. In the last few months I've started getting it on my stomach, just under my boobs and all over my back too. After much much googling I found lots of suggestions that it could be folliculitis and nizoral shampoo (the dandruff one) could help. I've been lathering it on my body and leaving it for a few minutes before rinsing off. I'm on day 7 it has completely cleared on my back and stomach. Still have a few small red spots on my bum but they're starting to clear too.

Horehound · 20/07/2021 09:10

Just to add to the pp, I was given a hibi scrub in the meantime before I can get antibiotics but it really hasn't done much
The nurse said the folliculitis could be very deep into my skin so topical treatments prob won't work however, it could be worth a go.
Just go to a Dr though I think!

Horehound · 20/07/2021 09:17

@MilduraS I googled that stuff but it is all anti dandruff?

ForTheDIR · 20/07/2021 09:48

Thanks, after reading these I think I will go to the dr, a few things rally with my experience. I just hope I don’t get eye rolled for wasting an appointment!

Yep but somehow it works for folliculitis.

Horehound · 20/07/2021 10:26

@ForTheDIR no they won't and if they do then push for a dermatologist appointment. I seem to remember ages ago doing that and they prescribed me roaccutane but I decided not to take it as I'm prone to depression and people have killed themselves whilst on it.

@milduras yeh sorry just in your first post you said the dandruff one but when I went to Google it's all anti dandruff so was just wondering if there were two types. So the anti dandruff one works? I'm Gona try it!

It's horrible having spots on bums especially at the beach when everyone else seems to have the perfect bot!

Onwardintotheunknown · 20/07/2021 10:34

OP my daughter suffers from this. A bath filled with Bicarb of Soda every day for several days helps.
When she gets really pus filled spots I take her to the GP for some antibiotics as it tends to be folliculitis.
She also has a skin condition called Keratosis pilaris which is common but it just means that her skin is a bit thicker than normal.

Definitely go to the GP

ForTheDIR · 20/07/2021 10:49

@Onwardintotheunknown oh yes, I have KP too, I feel your daughters pain!! Dont let her pick at them- it took years for the marks to fade on my arms and I still have a few.

@Horehound that’s good to know about roaccutane as I’m on antidepressants so doesn’t sound like the best idea for me. I’m leaning more towards deep folliculitis like you have, but will see what the GP says. I know what you mean / it’s not the worst thing in the world but it can be itchy and sometimes painful, and it’s just so awful I’m embarrassed to let my partner see it.

This is how I was diagnosed with Type 2. Nurse saw the nasty spots/boils during smear. Sent me to GP with a urine sample. Blood sugars were mental. Good luck!
