about a month ago ds1 (12) get sayin he had gone dizzy. just lasted a minute each time and wasn't really a big deal.

i posted here friday night after he suddenly went a bit odd. was talking to him in the kitchen and he stumbled forward like he was drunk, crashed into the kitchen cupboard and sunk to the floor.

he was fine afterwards and has been fine all weekend.

now, this morning he's feeling ill. headache, feels like he might be sick.

should i go to the doctor or bypass them and go to A & E ?

the calpol has lessened the headache. the doctor can see him at 11am (taxi job) or i can wait till later and go to A & E.

still undecided. i'm thinking that the doctor might just refer us to the hospital anyway?? i won't get an answer as to whats caused it from the doctor i don't think will i?

Have tried to make sure I have read all the responses.. has anyone suggested ear problems to you.

My friends daughter has just had grommets fitted as she kept randomly lying on the floor legs and arms spread to stabilise herself, but 5 minutes later be absolutely fine...

after a little investigation it is all about her ears.. after the grommets she is totally recovered.

I would have it checked as soon as you can. good luck

don't feel you are wasting the doctors/A&E dept time, if you are worried then go - I do.

I went to A&E last Sunday as I had glass in my foot and couldn't get it out myself so just turned up and got seen straight away, there was only one other person waiting.

People seem to think you have to be on deaths door to go to A&E and you don't, if someone needs urgent attention they will obviously put them before you but go & don't feel guilty.

It could be anything, I wouldn't even like to guess what it could be.

Let us know.

To me it sounds like he has a bug which is separate from the fainting/passing out episodes, there are a lot going round at the moment. I don't think anyone could blame you for getting him checked out at A and E though.

cheeryface · 26/11/2007 20:30

well as he wasn't actually sick i took him to the doctors in a taxi.

The doctor seemed to think he hadn't had a seizure and that a possibility was that it was this headachy thing he was brewing.

He basically said that unless he gets worse just keep him at home a couple of days on regualar calpol and should he have another funny turn then that is when he would be investigated furthur.
he said that could just be a one off.

i am still a bit worried though as in my mind something caused the faint like thing and he hasn't looked at all like he was coming down with anything. been absolutely chipper all weekend.

he said not to worry about sending him alone to school as if it does happen again it will most likely be in a safe place. very optimistic!

cheery, someone else has mentioned migraine, it sounds like it to me too. I had terrible migraines at about that age and nausea and headache are all part of it. As for the fainting fit, yes - that too. I would keel over if i stood for too long.

I would make sure he eats regularly, something with slow energy release like brown bread and bananas, keep his blood sugar up etc. That should help with the dizziness and even the headaches.

Ask him if hs has any visual disturbances with the nausea and headaches, seeing "lights" floating in front of eyes etc, flashing lights too, sure sign that my migraine was encroaching. I have a friend who suffers with migraine, she doesnt have a headache, just the nausea and lights.

SquiffyonSnowballs · 27/11/2007 17:39

I had fainting fits at that age, and headaches, it was a combination of growth spurt and low blood pressure. Nothing serious at all. I still faint ocasionally now, but doesn't really bother me because I know the likely situations and can avoid them.

SquiffyonSnowballs · 27/11/2007 17:40

by the way if you check out his blood pressure and it is generally on the low side then stuff like marmite is recommended (only time ever you'll get told to up your salt intake!)

thanx for the messages.

ds is happy but still tells me he has a low level headache. it's not bad enough for any calpol but still there.

this sounds absolutely barmy and i do suffer anxiety so may be completely irrational but as i lay in bed the other night i started to think about my uncle who died of a brain tumor and i haven't been able to get the thought out of my head since, that that might be the cause and no one is checking!

on monday it was just the morning that he felt sick and i know that is a symptom.

please someone tell me i'm an idiot.

cheery, the chances of a 12 year old boy having a brain tumopur are very very very very small. However, if it is worrying you, then speak to your doctor about your fears, because he/she should be able to put your mind at rest.

I am sure it is a middle ear thing, as I have had vertigo myself last year and i did sometimes feel a bit naseous in the mornings. Has cleared up, but it can take a while.
