Weird rash

I will call the dr tomorrow and don't expect a MN diagnosis but does anyone know/experienced a rash like this?!
I've noticed it for the first time today but according to dh it's been there for a couple of months! No idea why he hasn't told me before! Dd confirms it's not new. Apparently it's worse than normal today. I would have thought I'd have noticed beforehand but I suppose I don't really look at my back. It's not raised or itchy, just looks horrible Confused

Have you had a virus recently? I wonder if it’s Christmas tree rash?

Booger123 · 18/07/2021 11:41

Pityriasis rosea.

Threelittlebirds1 · 18/07/2021 11:48

Thanks for replying. No virus recently, no other health concerns.
@Booger123 just looked this up, it is a similar shape but it's not scaly. According to dh it hasn't spread it was just less prominent before. I wonder if the heat is making it more red today.

Hi it looks like tinea versicolor to me. My son gets it often when he sweats. It’s an anti fungal skin condition. Strong anti dandruff shampoo lathered on usually sorts it.

Threelittlebirds1 · 18/07/2021 21:21

Thanks @Ramina, I'm definitely going to give that a go!

?? Ring worm but I’ve never seen that much, usually a small patch.
Fungal infection. Easily treated with OTC canestan type anti fungal cream.

Reflections2021 · 20/07/2021 09:16

@Threelittlebirds1Any news on what it is?

My guess is Pityriasis rosea. I currently have a rash that looks the same and have an appointment this morning. I read somewhere that since the Covid pandemic cases of PR are up 5x although different theories on whether it’s linked to the virus activating it or circumstances relating to the virus such as the stresses of lockdown over the year. I have recently had a upper respiratory cold, but test for covid were negative.

Lushmetender · 20/07/2021 13:23

I’d say ringworm. It can take hold of untreated. I got it all over my trunk and arms once. Try microconazole. Hopefully you’ve got confirmation from Dr.

A photo update for anyone else that may find this helpful.
@Reflections2021 no confirmed diagnosis - I didn't want to take up a precious gp appointment if I could treat it myself so I have put antifungal cream on the past two nights and it has improved massively!
I think the heat definitely aggravated it on Sunday, dh said it had never looked like that before. You can still see the patches but they are very faint - which explains how I missed it for a couple of months!
I'm going to carry on with the antifungal cream for a while longer and if it doesn't go then I will see the GP.

It does look like ringworm in the original picture @Lushmetender. According to dh has been a faint tan colour when he's noticed it before and he didn't think much of it, it just looked like skin imperfections. Thankfully it is not itchy at all.

@Reflections2021 that is really interesting about covid/stress . What was the outcome of your appointment today? I hope you've got what you need to treat it.

Pityriasis vesicolor; common fungal infection, imo.

Racingadmin · 20/07/2021 22:01

I get something similar which flares up and then leaves darker brown pigmentation for a few weeks after.

Saw gp and we eventually narrowed it down to an allergic reaction. It's some kind of inflammatory response that has only started in the last year. Gp thinks it's either caused by long covid or peri-menopause as I get joint pain in my wrists and ankles and tingling fingers at the same time .

I now take an antihistamine twice daily - certirizine and can no longer eat tomatoes, spinach or drink red wine and beer (all high histamine foods . Photo is taken 20 minutes after half a tin of tomato soup!

Doctor confirmed PR. They thought not fungal ashtray said that would usually be itchy. Said essentially does not require treatment, and to use emollients and if it does become bothersome try hydrocortisone cream and/or an antihistamine etc. If I develop a fever etc. told to get back in touch, and if patches not improved in 3-4 weeks to get back in touch with the dr for a review.

Reflections2021 · 21/07/2021 00:02

*as they (not ashtray!)

Threelittlebirds1 · 21/07/2021 18:27

That's good it will clear up by itself @Reflections2021 I will add an emollient into my regime too!
Oh what a pain to develop the allergies @Racingadmin especially tomatoes which must be hard to avoid in sauces etc

@Threelittlebirds1 has your rash continued to clear up?

Based on your update I decided to try some fungal cream. It makes the appearance look better, and makes the centre peel a bit, but not really getting rid of the edges of the circles, and raised edges.

Out of interest what cream did you use? Think mine is PR as the doctor diagnosed but willing to try such creams just in case.
