Aftercare for mole removal

I had a mole removed last week from my chest (shave removal). I paid privately and wasn't really given much aftercare advice further than keep the dressing on for 2 days.

After 2 days I removed the dressing and the dressing was really damp but looked ok. It gradually dried over through the day but overnight became damp and sore again without a dressing.

I put a dressing over it which felt lots better but I'm worried it won't heal being kept damp.

If you've had a mole removed, how did you care for it after to make sure it healed (and hopefully doesn't leave too much of a scar)?

Ah wounds….they don’t like dry and they don’t like wet. When you say damp…. Is it clear fluid? Is the wound bed pink?

The wound bed is like a yellow/creamy colour. I don't think it's infected or anything like that, I feel fine and it doesn't smell - I hope anyway!

I had a mole removed from my chest and skin stitched together. They told me to put Vaseline on it twice a day to reduce scarring (it looks fine).

Thank you!

The nurse actually said about Vaseline and I've read about it being good but the doctor seemed to think leaving it would be best 🤔 might give the Vaseline a go since so many recommend it.

Yellow creamy? On a pink healthy wound bed yes a thin layer of Vaseline is great. But you want it to be pink otherwise it’ll take longer to heal. Speak to your practice nurse.

It’s not infected but the yellow sounds like slough and needs to be removed before the skin granulates and heals

Thank you! Will give the hospital I had it done at a ring in the morning and check it's how it should be and ask for some more aftercare info.

The colour isn't what I was expecting but has been that way since Sunday when I took the dressing off.
