URGENT - HELP PLEASE! Baby not wetting nappies as normal

DD is 6 mo and has a streaming nose. She is refusing to feed from one of my breasts and is clearly not very well. I gave her some calpol night last night (same stuff as medised) which seemed to help her sniffles but she slept much more than normal (doesn't do this with medised). What is worrying me more is that when I changed her night-time nappy after it had been on for 11 hours it was hardly heavy at all when normally it would be sodden. The next nappy since then had been on for four hours and again was only the tiniest bit heavier than a new nappy which is also strange as DD normally wees loads first thing in the morning. She is drinking fairly well and is trying to eat between her sniffles. She is quite tired/sleepy which is unusual for her. Is htis just the calpol night? Will she just pick up soon or do I have to phone the doc?

put a piece of kitchen roll in the nappy - most nappies are so efficient at taking away moisture it is hard to tell if they are wet

is she alert/happy in her awake time?

sleeping more is normal when babies are ill BTW

I would offer her milk little and often

in my opinion just keep offering her feeds and she should pick up. as long as the nappies ar wet she is not dehydrated. little and often.

She was alert at breakfast - kept on grabbing the pot of fruit and spoon then tried to feed herself! Yesterday she wouldn't nap at all no matter what I did to try and help her to sleep when she was tired but today she is happily having a long nap which she normally fights. I think I'm just freaked out that she has hardly been for a wee compared to normal when she is drinking more than normal. Surely her nose isn't running so much that she doesn't need to wee!

don't think snot production and wee are connected

i think keep offering her milk and she will perk up

obviously if things change or she gets a high fever etc then give your GP a call

Swaliswan · 25/11/2007 11:25

According to the thermometer her temperature is 38 - low fever. Will check again later.
