Blepharitis

If you have blepharitis, roughly how often do you have a flare-up? I've had it for about 18 months now and it's really starting to get me down. Every time I get it under control it flares up again. I've spent far more time with symptoms than without, despite religiously following all of the hygiene steps, compresses etc. I've had ointments prescribed about 4 times, and in the spring I was put on a month long course of antibiotics as well. It worked for a few weeks... but here I am again with sore crusty eyes. I used to wear contact lenses and eye makeup before all of this started, but I'm starting to think I'll never be able to again. I know there are worse problems to have, but it does get me down that I no longer feel like myself!)

When I had it I just washed my eyes with baby shampoo every day. I presume yours is a lot worse than mine though if you need other things to help.

I've had it for almost 3 years now, flares maybe 2/3 times a year, having the longest flare at the moment though, my left eye is sooo blurry most of the time too.

Are you doing the warm heat compress and massage lids daily? I find I need to do this daily for a fortnight to unblock and then 1-2 times a week to maintain.

AugustSeptemberOctober · 09/07/2021 18:10

Yep, I've actually done a compress 3 times today because I've been so uncomfortable. I've done the lid massage and wash every day for the last year, I don't know what more I can do. It's so frustrating! I ended up with an ulcer on my cornea last time because my eyes got so dry Sad
Sorry for the moan, feeling a bit sorry for myself today!

Blephasol (clue in the name) morning and night, clean along the lash line with a cotton pad. As it's a micellar water, it also acts as a rather effective eye makeup remover.

Thanks @Starlitexpress, I will pick some of that up tomorrow.

Not a Dr but what about Soolantra? I was surprised to read that blepharitis can be caused by demodex mites which can also cause rosacea. Soolantra can be quite effective for rosacea...

I was diagnosed with it a couple of months ago. It’s so weird because the only symptoms I get with it is occasional white bits in my lashes of a morning?! I don’t have sore eyelids or anything. The worst symptom for me is the accompanying dry eyes, I struggle with keeping them on an even keel. Just when I think they’re improving, they start to feel worse again! 🙄

Johnson’s baby shampoo twice a day using warm water …it really helped my blepharitis .

twinmum86 · 09/07/2021 21:35

Absolutely blephasol as @Starlitexpress says.

Morning and night. If I miss it once I can feel it.

And the other thing is to keep using it, like if you stop using anti dandruff shampoo, it comes back! Just build it into your daily regime.
