Can anyone recommend a tasteless or pleasant tasting multivitamin?

My adult son is autistic with some sensory sensitivities and finds taking multivitamins unpleasant as they leave a nasty taste in his mouth. He could really use the extra nutrition though. Can anyone recommend one that's pleasant to take? Either with a decent added flavour or that just doesn't taste at all. I've tried a few kinds for him but he couldn't tolerate any of them.

How about a spray? I think you can get a Better You multi vit spray on Amazon (I use the vit d, the iron and the b vit ones).

I like chewyvites.

Bassets raspberry and pomegranate - unless jelly type ones are a sensory no no? They taste delicious

TheNarwhalBalloon · 09/07/2021 22:50

Thank you so much, great suggestions!

I like centrum chewable ones, they aren't really chewy though, just like a fruity sweet. Tesco and Sainsburys usually have them.

What about the bassets multivitamins? That’s what my boys take. They’re basically like a gummy sweet. Google tells me they do an adult version.

Cowbells · 09/07/2021 23:03

Yes, the Bassett's chewy sweet ones. DS (also autistic and unable to eat much for years) used to have these. And the Boots children's vitamin gummy bears were so nice I used to steal packets of them. (From DC - not Boots!)

I have Boots A-Z which are like horse pills in size but have some kind of tasteless coating on them; as they get wet in your mouth they go slimy and are pretty easy to swallow.

I should have said I'm hoping to find one with minerals in too. Iron is an issue!

Thanks everyone for your ideas

Centrum Fruity Chewables are lovely and often recommended by the dieticians in our area

Elune · 09/07/2021 23:09

Another vote for the Bassets ones. They are just like gummy sweets and very tasty!

The Boots A-Z have everything, if the size of the pill isn't an issue.

What about Berroca or other effervescent multivitamins? He can just have it as a 'fizzy drink' then or disguised in a drink he does like?

Most supermarkets do an own brand 'gummy' version of multivitamins.

Theres loads of gentle iron supplements that can be added to food or drinks like spatone. Cooking in iron pans can also help with boosting iron.

ChateauMargaux · 09/07/2021 23:19

Spatone for iron.. practically tasteless.

Can he swallow tablets? What about plastic coated ones? These are 4 a day which might be a bit much to take and some people struggle with swallowing things..

Thanks, he can swallow tablets but I've tried 3 kinds so far and he says they all make his mouth taste bad all day. He's possibly sensitive to one ingredient but I've no way of knowing which.
Thanks for the iron suggestions - Spatone is far from tasteless for him (or me to be honest!). I guess it's going to be very hard for us to guess what's acceptable for him without a lot of expensive trial and error unfortunately.

Have you tried floradix for iron?
It's not tasteless, but doesn't taste too bad. Think you can get tablets too but no idea about after taste

ChateauMargaux · 10/07/2021 11:20

I understand the taste, texture and lingering sensations and yes, I understand the journey of trying to find something that can be tolerated.

Have you considered tissue salts? HandB

Also can you look at what he is getting from food.. that might be easier, though I also understand there might be issue with variety and textures.

StorminaBcup · 10/07/2021 11:29

Is he taking them with / without food? Just wondering if there is any association with taking on an empty stomach or with a food that he may eating? It’s likely to be the iron that’s giving it a strong after taste.

ArabellaRockerfella · 10/07/2021 14:39

I really recommend the sprays. The Better You ones are really good and have a whole range. The ones I've had from them are either minty or fruity.

WednesdayIsPurple · 10/07/2021 17:37

Yes I would also recommend the sprays. They go under the tongue so you barely taste them (and they are pleasant tasting anyway).
