Dental abscess… is there any worse pain?

Had a root canal treatment on Monday that resulted in an abscess. I had no idea tooth pain could be so bad… I haven’t slept in two nights, the pain has been unrelenting. Just there hour after hour, no break from it, truly hideous. And to cap it off the infection has spread into my face, it’s gone up like a balloon. I’m on hardcore double antibiotics, which are making me feel dreadful.
Childbirth, migraines … I have to say, this pain is in a league of its own!

Oh @nimbuscloud I’m finding it an effort to tap on my phone while lying down. How did you carry on working???
@aibubaby I haven’t tried speaking in tongues yet… tempted.

@BellaTara
I have no idea
I cried in work when I realised what I had done. The relief when the abscess burst was indescribable

I had it in February. Couldn't get an ooh dentist. 111 said go to a&e if your eye won't open.Hmm.
I have to say though that the pain wasn't as bad as having my nose cauterised without anaesthetic.

As others have said, childbirth not in the same league. Though I always think the pain of childbirth is exaggerated, you get relief between contractions.

Worst pain in the world. I would have happily ripped my own head off. Would rather give birth every day for a week to avoid that pain again.

@aibubaby

I went genuinely deranged with pain last time my terrible teeth betrayed me. Speaking in tongues, howling like an animal, pacing back and forth growling.

Just unbearable. I ended up taking a medically inadvisable combination of painkillers and sleeping tablets to get me through the night til the emergency dental hospital would see me.

Same! Deranged is the right word! Spent all night pacing screaming into a pillow. I am militant about DD&DS teeth now. I would hate for them to suffer like that.

Still vividly remember the pain, so bad that I didn’t even flinch when I got the bill from my very expensive private dentist, tbh I would have paid double in gratitude at the speed I was seen.

I thought it was until I had pancreatitis - I was hospitalised for about 9 days and the pain was excruciating. Even morphine just too the edge off it for about 2 hours and I could only have it every 4 hours. I had other painkillers but was sobbing with the pain every 2 hours. The consultant to.d me he thinks it us the worst pain if any medical condition which was no comfort. Giving birth was nothing near as painful for me.

Flowers and hugs. Dental pain is evil. And neglected. If I had even half the pain from anything else I'd have been prescribed painkillers.

And @BellaTara if you have any breathing difficulties or symptoms of sepsis don't hesitate to call 999.

If the painkillers armt working you can ring your gp and get stronger ones. I had 3 attempts to pull a tooth while the was an absess. I rang my gp in tears and they sorted me a really strong painkiller untill the anti bs kicked in.
