Really painful neck and back from just twisting awkwardly - any experiences?

Last night DH stood on a plug while I was curled up in bed with DD. He let out such a yell I instinctively whipped my head round, and seem to have really damaged something. It's actual agony standing up, turning my head, lifting baby DD etc.

Fortunately DM can look after DD and toddler DS today, but I really can't be out of action for long. Does anyone have any experience of this? How long did it last?

This sounds sore op-how are you feeling now? Do you have any pains in your arms or is it staying around the neck area? I’ve twisted suddenly before and the pain took a few days to settle. I wore a scarf around my neck to support it and give a bit of heat this seemed to help. Hope you get better soon

Thanks @CherryLeaf, it's better than it was but still very sore and it's still very difficult to lift the children, which I'm struggling with Sad I'm glad yours shifted in a few days, a friend has just told me it took months when he strained his neck so you're giving me hope!

Have you tried rubbing Vicks vaporub on it and then putting some heat on it? It can help a lot, i believe.

Hot shower aimed at the effected area helps me when I've wrenched something.

Ouch I feel your pain I’m gradually getting over a bad back from Sunday, I literally screamed with pain at first it does get easier, but memory foam pillows have been a godsend these last couple of days. Once I can get out of bed without wincing I’ll know I’m on the mend. Deep heat or ice packs, well bags of veg, used only for this.

I go straight to Oestopath for stuff like that. Mine is wonderful

I had something similar but on my lower back, I could barely put my foot on the floor to take a step it was so painful.
I searched youtube for some gentle back stretches and found some good ones that were so low level they seemed pointless but after doing them a couple of times I could walk, albeit slowly.
I gradually worked up to doing beginners yoga and other stretches. I regularly do a bit of low level yoga now. Maybe try something like that, starting off with low level movements/stretches?
Given it is your neck though, it might be worth trying to see a medical professional. Tbh though they'll probably just advise paracetamol and similar exercises.
