He had his sisters boots on, and was sat at the top of the stairs, stood up, fell forward onto his head and then fell down rest of stairs.

He has cried alot, but is now fine, said that it was his forehead that was hurting, but he has no lump.

So advice please, get him checked or just keep an eye on him ?

I'd get him checked but I'm a worrier

Oh no really, was hoping everyone would say no lol.

Oh dear! He seems ok by the sounds of it. Signs of concussion include persistent vomiting, inability to be roused, and pupils that don't dilate. I would say he's ok but ring NHS direct? Also when he goes to bed wake him up after an hour (that's what they told me to do at A & E) to check he's not concussed.

I (personally) would keep an eye on him and give him some Calpol.

I remember the 2nd (or was it 3rd or 4th ) time that DS1 fell down the stairs I was told that it's good if they cry straight away - the time to worry is when they don't.

Thanks

He cried before he even got to the bottom i think, and then lots after. He is now standing on his head, on the sofa, singing xmas songs

yes he sounds fine, (voice of experience here ). As CM says wake him up 1hr or so after he's gone to bed to check he's still ok, and any of the signs of concussion get him checked out.

nutcracker · 23/11/2007 19:10

Ok, thank you

Well I think it would depend on the Xmas song. If he's singing 'Frosty the Snowman' I'd get down to A & E straight away - obviously has head injuries.

PMSL @ CM

I was told by my GP that I should worry if after a fall they become unconscious. Sounds like your ds is OK According to that advice.
If he complains about pain, I agree with TQOQ and give him a painkiller.
But if you are worried, have him checked out. As an alternative, you can phone your emergency doctors and ask for advice over the phone. I have done it a few times and it was always good to have some reassurance I was doing the right thing.

BTW, last weekend we had the ceremony of the removal of the stairgates. Dd is 2.6, and I wonder when she will fall down too...

Wotzupnow · 23/11/2007 19:11

They are very good at stair falling at that age, very often used to see mine sliding past. dc's sort of bend. Its a fright for us to watch it.

Glad to hear he is looking better. Sounds like he can move everything which is a good sign.

DD1 age 2.5 was once standing on the stair gate at the top of the stairs. It broke free and she "surfed" down the stairs on top of it! Luckily I caught her just before she landed. Cried a bit and was a bit shocked but otherwise ok
