Anyone been on Tramadol?

Tiggerish · 23/11/2007 10:51

I've been on Tramadol for 6 months and having reduced the dose to less than 1 a day, have stopped them altogether.

I'm currently feeling sh**e - really woozy, spaced out etc.

Does anyone know how long this is likely to last?

I had to be taken off them because they made me really sick within about 20 minutes of taking them.

Tiggerish · 23/11/2007 11:03

I've had no problem whilst on them - it's just coming off them that's causing the problem. Maybe I should change my name to Druggie

my DH started on these yesterday, he has anti sickness tablets with them and is keeping them down, he says he feels a bit woozy and spaced out but he was feeling like that before anyway.
how many were you on before?

Tiggerish · 23/11/2007 11:09

The most I took was 4 in a day I think, that was about 6 months ago. At that point I had to stop work because I couldn't drive or think straight. 3 or less didn't affect me in the same way.

How is your dh OJ? Think about you often

I'm on these at the mo with no problems

The leaflet inside the packet says that your symptoms can occur when you stop. It says that you should tell your dr and that such effects usually stop after a couple of days

onlyjoking9329 · 23/11/2007 11:21

steve is on 6/8 a day 50mg ones.
they are working for him, i did ask the doctor last night about them cos on the leaflet it says can cause headaches due to them increasing pressure in your head
doctor insists that they are ok for steve even thou he has pressure in his head to start with.
Steve so much better today thanks

Tiggerish · 23/11/2007 11:21

I saw the dr yesterday and he was very vague as to how long it would go on for. I expect it depends on the individual. I was hoping for some 1st hand experiences!

It's day 3 now and my head is definately not right (no change there then!) I daren't drive in case I black out again like yesterday.

that sounds scary tiggerish, give it another few days and see if any better?

Tiggerish · 23/11/2007 11:23

So glad Steve is better today OJ, and that the tramadol are working for him. They are a fab drug when the do agree with you. I certainly couldn't have functioned without them during the past 6 months.

I am going to persevere until the end of the weekend. I have to work on Monday whatever, even if it means taking more of them. But I'll be gutted if I have to. (I don't deal too well with failure!)

I was px'd a course after cochlear implant surgery on my head. The worked fantastically well for numbing the pain where the drill had gone through my skull, but I found I just slept on them most of the time. Is it an opiate based painkiller? I've also been prescribed strong co-codamol (Kapake/solpadol) and when I've stopped them it's taken between 2-5 days to get over the withdrawals. Hope it's not too unpleasant for you.

kokeshi · 23/11/2007 11:36

Can you do a reducing dose? Cutting down gradually and taking less each day? Shouldn't be as bad as going "cold turkey".

Tiggerish · 23/11/2007 11:40

2 - 5 days doesn't sound too bad kokeshi.

No, a reducing dose isn't really a good option because all it does is delay the final stage, and won't make it any easier in the long run to stop altogether.

I will only do that if I have to in order to function at work. I know I don't need them any more for pain relief so a minimal dose to keep me going wouldn't be the end of the world but v frustrating iykwim.

Oh I know what you mean, I think it's just easier to get it over and done with personally (that's what I did), but I made sure I didn't have too many other pressures to deal with at the time. Hope it works out for you.

needmorecoffee · 23/11/2007 12:32

I'm on them for pain but the doc failed to mention any withdawal effects. Sigh.

Tiggerish · 23/11/2007 12:42

not everyone has problems with withdrawal needmorecoffee - maybe you'll be lucky

I have recently stopped these, I was taking 3 per day then down to 2 per day for 1 week, then 1 per day for 1 week, then I stopped.

My sleeping was a litle bit disturbed for a few nights.

I was given them to help with withdrawals from valium but felt they added to the problem tbh.

Tiggerish · 23/11/2007 12:48

interesting about the sleep hiddenicon. it took me 3 hours to drift off last night.

bumping for any more ex-tramadolians.....

How are you feeling Tigeer?

I meant to come back on the other day to say to you about your sleeping.

I find if I come on the PC after 5/6pm it keeps me awake. I also try not to read anything too exciting. Nice warm bath some TV and a boring magazine helps.

Hope you feel a bit better.

seeker · 25/11/2007 09:09

My dh took tramadol for his back a while ago. He had the most horrendous withdrawl symptoms - the dr told him to reduce the dose in stages but quite quickly, and it was a disaster. In the end, he reduced incredibly slowly and was fine. He was up in the middle of the night making scones like a speeded up video once!

GreatAuntieWurly · 25/11/2007 09:21

I have but was only on them for about a week they really didnt agree with me at all. Again I had terrible side effect when I stopped taking them

Tiggerish · 25/11/2007 16:38

I'm feeling much better thanks Hiddenicon. Had a reasonable night last night and am basically ok in the day now. Still feeling very cold sometimes (but that could just be the cr*y weather!!)

OP posts:
lenaschildminding · 28/11/2007 14:09

I had them once, within 20 minutes I went dissy, my heart pounded, I felt faint and was violently sick! Never took them again!

Sorry, thats not much help is it!
