Hypertonic pelvic floor - struggling

I’ve been diagnosed with a hypertonic pelvic floor and grade 1 bladder prolapse.
I’m working with a private physio to try to relax my pelvic floor but wondered if anyone else been diagnosed with this and how long did it take to start feeling better?
For the past year I was doing kegals daily after seeing a NHS physio who didn’t diagnose that my pelvic floor was actually too tight, just that the PF muscles were weak, so it feels like its been a long while to get to this diagnosis.
My physio did suggest using a pessary to try to help the muscles relax, as she thinks that while I have the discomfort from the prolapse that my pelvic floor won’t fully relax.

Hi, I know this was a few months ago but just seeing where you were at? I’m 8 months postpartum and also have grade 1 prolapse 1 my main issue is bladder issues - I feel like I need to pee constantly. I was working with a physio doing pelvic floor exercises for months with no improvement. I did suggest that I thought the muscles were too tight as I can feel myself ‘holding’ them without realising. Now that I am conscious of it though I am struggling not to do it! I did see a new physio yesterday who agreed with me and has given me breathing exercises to work on. I do feel like this has really taken over my life!

Hello, just wanted to let you know there’s a lady physio on youtube who specialises in this and has good videos, if you search ‘hypertonic pelvic floor’ she will come up, Joy is her name, IIRC. There are various silicone devices, kind of dildos? But they are very cute and come in tiny size and progressively bigger to ‘train’ your muscles to relax gradually. Trans women use this ‘dilators’ to keep their vagina open (😦)

Deep breathing exercises can help, there are yoga videos especially for hypertonic pelvic floor you can follow along, also on YouTube.

I have this but mine is caused by a chronic embedded UTI that the NHS is misdiagnosing in thousands (millions?) of women as incurable Interstitial Cystitis, mine is cured by long term antibiotics (Dr. Malone-Lee protocol)

Ovestin Estriol cream can also help, with post partum pelvic floor dysfunction.

Enhance Your Estrogen

After delivery, a woman's estrogen levels take a significant dip. If you choose to breastfeed, they stay lowered for the duration. Decreased estrogen levels cause dryness and thinning of the vaginal lining. “A prescription-strength estrogen cream is important to get that lining back.23 Oct 2020
