4 yo with no urine infection won't stop going to the loo!

Can anyone give me some advice? my 41/2yo ds won't stop going to the toilet to pee. When we are at home he is going at least every 10 minutes. I took him to the dr's and they checked for infection in his urine and there was nothing. He doesn't appear to be going as frequently at school and it hasnt been a problem ( his teacher has been keeping an eye on him) although they do have pretty regular loo breaks.

When I've googled all sorts of hideous things come up as symptomatic of this. He's not dry at night - though is dry during the day and has been so since he was 2.5. He isvery resistant to losing his nappies at night and seems to wee a lot at night - (they are always really heavy int he morning)

Anyone any ideas. I am trying to be really relaxed with him about it, but tonight over tea he had gone about 3 times in about 15 minutes ( and is weeing) I told him he had to wait to go again...

???????

I work in a school, sometimes without DC realising they get into such a habit (literally) that everytime they change activity they need to go to the loo! why ????? who knows! Have discovered this alot, for example , as soon as we leave the classroom at least 2 children will ask to go to the loo!(normally its the same 2 DC). Whether its their security who knows, all I know is that we do not make a fuss and usually as a rule they grow out of it!

My friends dd (same age as you ds) is going through this too. Probably just one of those wierd and wonderful stages they go through

Is he drinking a lot as well?

Did they test his urine for sugar as well as for infection?

My DS1 was exactly like this at 4. It gets a bit maddening doesn't it. It is almost like he had been dry for a while but suddenly started to worry that he was going to have an accident which he never did. Maybe it is starting school that does it.

I think they need to hold on to it sometimes to increase the capacity of their bladders so I tried to get him to wait for 10-15 minutes if possible which helped a bit.

He eventually grew out of it although he is still goes quite frequently.

Thanks - this sounds quite reasuuring. I have always had what in my family we referred to as a small bladder and I need to go to the loo alot - so it may be genetic - its just got really noticeable with him at the moment. When he isnt engrossed in something I think he's way more aware of it and perhaps I am more aware of it when he should be sitting down to eat his tea...

he isnt drinking a huge amount and in fact I soemtimes worry he doesnt drink enough - but wee is right color etc.

they checked for sugars and proteins as well as infection - which ruled out diabetes and other kidney related issues - so would seem to either be a little bit pscycological ( sp?) or something else...

I think it helps to drink more rather than less, like when you have an UTI and you go more often even though you have nothing left to pee.

I think you are right about some people having smaller bladders though. I think some people produce it more quickly - DS1 can have a drink and you can guarantee that within half an hour he will need to go. When he was potty training he was going every 45 minutes and still producing a fair amount. I couldn't do that - if I went again after 45 minutes there would be nothing there! DS2 went for 2 or 3 hours without going so he is probably like me.

By the way, is he definitely peeing in the night? DS1 used to have full nappies in the morning and we never thought, at 4 that he was ready to lose them, but one night we forgot to put one on and he was dry in the morning. The next night we left them off on purpose and he was again fine but wet himself as he got out of bed. He said he forgot he wasn't wearing a nappy. After that he never wet the bed again. Turns out that all this time he had been using the nappy instead of the toilet in the morning.
