fireworks in my head

Has anyone else ever had the feeling that a firework is going off in your head? It only happens for a milisecond but it feels like a fizz in my head, it's not painful but just a bit strange. It can happen at any time but most often as I fall asleep. I am quite stressed at the moment as a lot of illness in the family, and I take medication for high blood pressure, and I'm overweight apart from that I am quite healthy.

Exploding head syndrome? Sounds more sinister than it is!

Nanny2many · 29/06/2021 14:56

Are you stressed or tired?i think it also could be a sign of being about to faint or black out

Originalyellowbelly · 29/06/2021 19:56

Exploding head syndrome! That sounds dramatic, I'm off to google.

Yes, since I have been in peri menopause. Another joy of being a middle aged woman.

Myneighboursnorlax · 29/06/2021 20:00

My first thought was exploding head syndrome too

Originalyellowbelly · 29/06/2021 20:01

Nanny2many yes, I am stressed but I don't faint or pass out. It sounds like it's not serious, just annoying. Thank you both for the replies.

Yes, I get a buzz at the base of my skull sometimes! I get it when I'm tired or a bit stressed.
I've also experienced exploding head syndrome which was one of the most scariest experiences of my life. Happened during a dream and someone was holding a gun to my head.

Dragonn · 29/06/2021 20:07

I once had one episode where it felt like my brain had lost it's signal and all there was, was that black and white crackling when old fashioned TVs had no signal. Must have been 20 seconds or so, but it was terrifying. I was under stress and hadn't realise I was double dosing on ibuprofen, so 800mg x3 a day. No idea if it was related.

Dragonn · 29/06/2021 20:08

2 - 5 seconds

Originalyellowbelly · 29/06/2021 20:38

The brain is a complicated thing, I guess it's not surprising it does weird things, can be scary though, especially when you think you have a gun at your head!

I suffer with neuralgia which feels exactly like you say... fireworks and fizzing. It is caused by a nerve in my neck/spine being irritated. It isn't painful as such but weird and uncomfortable and distracting. It can also be triggered by wisdom teeth shifting and aggravating the facial nerves.

Speak to a gp as it can be easily controlled by medication
