Eye test- found a lesion

I went for my first ever eye test because I’ve been feeling like writing is a bit wobbly especially when there is high contrast or light behind it, on a screen. Also felt like I’ve had a bit of a bright line in my vision a bit like after you’ve looked at something bright but it hasn’t gone away. Hardly noticeable- a bit like tinnitus- you notice it more when you think about it. Feel like it’s in my right eye.
Also being 45 maybe I should.
Anyway he prescribed reading glasses even though I could read everything but they’re very low at .75.
But I had this test where he put drops in my eye and he spent ages looking at my right eye and got a colleague to look. Then he faxed off an urgent referral to the eye clinic. He kept asking me if I’d got high blood pressure or anything. He said there’s an isolated cotton wool like lesion. He wants to rule out astrocytoma which is a tumour. He said he’s being cautious. He also asked me to let him know what happens. I also need to get all bloods done at dr etc. Anyone experienced this? Or know what to expect? I haven’t had any headaches or any other ill health.

Eye tests are so good at picking up things long before you have other symptoms. Our specsavers was in the local news, as an optician had picked up something and asked if they'd had heart trouble. The patient underwent immediate surgery - that optician was hailed as a hero and saved the man's life!

Oh that’s good! This was specsavers too. Still haven’t heard anything about an appointment.

Specsavers picked up a melanoma in my dh's eye. No symptoms or anything..a routine eye test. He was referred asap to hospital and had all sorts of tests..it's being monitored for now and he has to wear dark glasses.
Hope you are seen soon!

Spec savers also picked up something in my daughters eye and sent us for a referral. To reassure you, I. The end hers turned out to be harmless but it was right to get it checked. Good luck.

May I ask how your dh is?

Specsavers found a lesion on my eye 18 months ago with leaking fluid.

I'm also being monitored. What treatment - if any - has he had?

Cotton wool spots are a sign that there is a problem with the blood vessels in that bit of the eye. They’re often seen in people who have high blood pressure or diabetes (plus a host of other much rarer causes). Some are idiopathic - which means they can’t find a cause!

The other thing that are sometimes confused with cotton wool spots are myelinated nerve fibres, which are not a cause for concern.

Yes he kept asking if I was in good health because all around it looked fine and he said it’s normally seen in people with high blood pressure or cardiovascular problems. He seemed really confused actually. Really helpful to hear these responses thank you.

Mrs08 Nothing active.. lots of retinal photos taken..he has to go back every 6 months to check it hasn't changed. That at he has to wear transitioning lenses in his glasses at all times. So far nothing horrible has developed :)
