Advice needed please - can't get my results interpreted

I had bloods about 5 weeks ago, for thyroid, blood glucose etc.
Had a phone call to discuss results, well, no discussion really, GP just rushed through as fast as possible.

What I got from this was, thyroid a bit low, blood sugar almost prediabetic, low vit D, ferritin OK, everything else OK. Just cut down on sugar was the only advice.

I have a copy of the results, have tried calling the surgery, on hold for almost and hour then cut off, of requested a callback which never happens. I have looked at the results and vit D doesn't seem too bad but B12 looks low to me. However, I am only looking at information online as I have no other way to find out. I have ascertained that blood glucose is high, and thyroid low, but the rest I am in the dark.

I am so fed up with feeling like crap all the time and getting nowhere.

I wondered if there is anyone that could translate the results for me so that I know what I should be taking because even when I speak to a GP they seem to know nothing about vitamins, in fact the last one I saw asked me why I was taking calcium, I wasn't, I was taking Vit D with vit K2.

Please could anyone help? Am getting desperate.

Vitamin D can make quite a difference. My GP told me to aim for 1000 IU a day just to maintain. Mine was in range but my GP wasn’t happy that it was lower end and put me on a booster dose. If the GP isn’t engaging you could ask a pharmacist for the quickest way to raise your levels
What are your thyroid levels? Assume TSH only?
Can’t comment on others I’m afraid

Can you put your results up, either a photo of the print out removing your personal details, or by typing them out (with the reference ranges)?

StrugglingToGetHelpWithResults · 24/06/2021 18:37

Thank you for replying.
I was told to take the standard dose, as always, for D, actually told to take less than the last person suggested, and when I asked was brushed off with 'just take a bit more then'.

TSH Result value 4.76, Ref Range 0.27 - 4.2 Status H
Free T4 Free thyroxine, Result Value 18.5, Ref Range 12.0 -22.0
Free T3, Result Value 5.1, Ref. Range 3.1 - 6.8

Vit D Result value 54

I have been sent the scan of the results so seem to have them all (5 vials of bloods worth).

Thank you Na Toth, your post appeared after I had typed out the above.

I have a lot of results! Not sure what I need to post as I don't want to overload people that try to help.

I will try to post a copy if you could bear with me please.

@NaToth

Thank you again.
I have copied some of the results. Hopefully not made a mess of it.

Well, your thyroid hormone levels (triiodothyronine [T3] and thyroxine [T4]) are normal but your thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is slightly high. This might suggest that your thyroid is underactive and your pituitary is secreting more TSH to compensate. I think the GP would repeat those measurements no sooner than 6 weeks later if symptoms are getting worse. www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng145/chapter/Recommendations#investigating-suspected-thyroid-dysfunction-or-thyroid-enlargement

Do your results say exactly what has been measured for the vitamin D test? It would usually be 25(OH)vit D3 (25-hydroxycolecalciferol). The recommended range differs by season, as you would expect to have more in summer. Ideally it should be above 75 nmol/L but it's only officially defined as deficient below 25 nmol/L. Do you spend much time outside with a reasonable amount of skin exposed? If not, you might need to take vitamin D supplements to get your level up a bit.

What were the blood glucose and B12 measurements? Was the glucose in a fasting blood sample (i.e. first thing in the morning before eating/drinking anything) or just a random one?

Thank you NoNotHim. Fasting tests. I am trying to reduce image size of the copies I took to upload, please bear with me.

Your folate needs to go up a bit. Methylfolate is what you need - not straight folic acid.

Thyroid isn't great. TSH is too high (should be under 2) FT4 is only just over mid-range and FT3 is correspondingly low. That, as a PP said, needs re-checking in a few weeks time, together with TPO antibodies.

Do you have a serum ferritin result?

StrugglingToGetHelpWithResults · 25/06/2021 18:04

How much methyl folate please?

Ferritin 82

I was told to go back in 'a couple of months'.
