I do catch pple looking at my tummy and wondering if I am pregnant again (have 3)........

I'm sick of it - has anyone got any tips for getting rid of the flabby tum?

I'm not too bad everywhere else, tho I have put on weight recently, but my tummy is my weak spot.

Could it really be carboyhdrate? I find if I cut down on bread etc it does help, but I find this sooooooo hard.

I think aerobic exercise is the best way to get rid of excess fat - wherever you store it on your body will be where you lose it from first. Most of us have a tendency to put on weight in one place more than others, and after children especially it often gets left on your stomach.

I go to a step class once a week, and shockingly thats about it! I find it hard to fit exercise in (kids, work, studying) but as it is really getting me down just now and my huge wardrobe of clothes is becoming more and more limited - I must give it greater priority. I am not buying more clothes.

Any motivational tips????

Is it flabby or firm?

I have cut out gluten due to my tummy looking and feeling bloated and within days it has gone (well maybe just a bit of flab left)

I do find it hard not eating breah though.

my tummy was like this (even before I was pg . so after pg it was awful ! I went to a few ab classes and it has really worked. diet will not really help, you have to tighten up the tummy muscles that were stretched. target the obliques and abs.

BritTex · 22/11/2007 13:17

I did not mean that just a few ab classes did the trick I meant that I learned the excercises at the ab class and now do them 2 or 3 times a week.

Someone was willing to give me their seat on the Tube yesterday... I was horrified, DS is 20 months and I'm finally getting somewhere with the weight, well so I thought! it's all in the belly area, isn?t it?

I used to get congratulated all the time. The more weight I lost, and the more crunchies I did, the more odd my stomach looked, and I ended up in front of a plastic surgeon.

The bad news is that, for some women, after you give birth, your stomach muscles do not knit back together like they do for most women. Then the more you excercise th emore you develop yourmuscles, but instead of them pulling your stomach in they push your stomach out. The surgeon recommended that I stop all ab excercises immediately as they were making things worse; my personal trainer agreed with advice, though my GP rubbished it.

Once I knew I couldn't do anything about it (other than a tummy tuck, which can only be done if you are finished with childbirth and not overweight) I chilled out a bit about it. Now I have had another baby I am out of shape anyway and it doesn't notice so much

So, advice is that if you do abs, monitor yourself closely. And get it checked out if things seem to get worse, not better, because you may be in same boat.

FrannyandZooey · 22/11/2007 16:10

I don't think specific abs exercises are the answer for most women - you just need to lose the extra weight if you want a smaller stomach. You can have perfectly strong muscles but lots of fat over the top - that's what causes the pg comments

BritTex · 22/11/2007 16:20

the message I was given by my trainer at the gym was that there are lots of muscules in your core and to not focus only on your abs, you need to strenghten your whole core especailly your obliques (the ones down the sides) and your back. I agree that the stretched jelly skin is not going anywhere but my stomach is much flatter now than it used to be.

I'm sticking to it as a tummy tuck is not in my budget

mustsleep · 23/11/2007 10:17

what if though you have lost weight everywhere else and just your tummy weight is left

jogym · 23/11/2007 14:59

You have to get your body fat down. I have been seeing a personal trainer for 2 months now and my body fat has dropped 5%. I am a size 8 with a flabby tum! It gets me down too but what can you do about it. Truth is I love my food and can do hard workouts and then stuff my face the day after. Watch your food intake (easier said than done). If I was extremely good with my food I could do it. I currently work out x3 a week interval training and WEIGHTS they shape your body and I have noticed the difference. I have found it much harder getting my tummy down after 2nd baby. I still looked pregnant 4 months after dd was born it would not go away. I have had 2 babies at 9lb 6 and 9lb 2 at 5 foot tall so my tummy is not quite going to be the same again. Learn to live with it if you know you're putting the effort into exercise. It's now a way of life to me.
