Spiralling anxiety after missed calls.

Hi,
I was seen in the breast clinic last Thursday after finding a lump at the top of my breast accompanied by pain and tenderness which the GP was pretty sure was muscular but referred me to be sure. I got into a right state in the weeks before the appointment (single mum of 3, not long since we escaped abuse and set up a new life) and at the clinic the consultant also sure it was muscular. Had an ultrasound and yep, some lumpy bump of cartilage spotted, no concerns, ultrasound dude said it was nothing to worry about. He also pointed out a tiny cyst he saw elsewhere, an 'incidental find' which was about 3mm. Also not concerning and I was sent on my way with no follow up.
So obviously I have been massively relieved however this afternoon I have had two missed calls from a number which googling tells me is a generic outgoing number for my local NHS trust. No messages have been left and I can't return the call. It's not the same number I got the original call to make the clinic appointment. I am straight back into panic mode as now I'm convinced the scan has been reviewed and it's something sinister. I'm not awaiting any calls for anything else, been double jabbed etc. I'm unhappy that no message has been left because at least I would have some idea...I can feel my anxiety levels soaring and I'm so scared, maybe even more so than I was pre appointment.
Is this scenario likely? Do they review scans?

In my experience no they don’t review scans again. You could call your GP in the morning and try to get them to contact the breast clinic?

Obviously I have no way of knowing, but I want to reassure you that hospitals call for all sorts of reasons. Mine called last week because a letter they sent me had been returned to sender and they wanted to check my address. It could be anything. I know it’s easier said than done but try not to get yourself worked up 💐

Thank you, yes I plan to ring around tomorrow to see if I can figure it out - it was after 5pm when I spotted the calls as I had been driving home from work, I did call the main switch board but they said they couldn't trace calls and if it was an emergency someone would call back...it's not a great system really, just a voicemail giving some idea of what department to call would be helpful.

Probably just a survey of your care at the hospital. I get them sometimes.

If there was any kind of problem or worrying issue they would have absolutely left a message asking you to get in touch.

vivainsomnia · 22/06/2021 08:39

If it was anything of concern they would have left a message asking you to call a certain number.

No joy yet, can't seem to trace these calls. Hopefully they will try again, I'm now glued to my phone!
Thank you for all the reassurance, it's really helping, I do feel a bit calmer.

I regularly get calls from our local hospital, asking me to rate the service I received at an appointment. They're quite persistent and will phone several times until they get me, so it might be that.
